Generating membership cards and certificates
Current behavior:
Membership certificates/cards can be produced by running a search, exporting records and using something like MS Word mail merge
Desired behavior:
Ability to directly setup in the system layout and fields for membership certificates/cards and then to print them using common label formats.
Notes:
Details about specific desired formats/layouts/label sizes would be appreciated.
Hello, dear supporters!
This suggestion has accumulated many votes over years and is one of top 3 in “Members” category.
We’re happy to announce that the Membership Card is now ready for your use! Some of you already participated in beta-testing of this feature and using it already. We really appreciate your participation, time and feedback.
As all big threads, this one contains several suggestions. Some of them are covered in the release, some are not. Let’s jump into it.
What released: Members can download and print membership cards using the design you create with the templates provided. Once you design and publish your card, members can view, download, and print their cards from their member profiles.
What is not covered yet:
- Membership certificates https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932/suggestions/8825803
- Certificates for attendees https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932/suggestions/19171474
- Ability to put Barcodes or QR codes on the card. We are conducting technical analysis of this update. https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932/suggestions/31925269
- Bulk printing or printing on plastic by using templates, like Avery, etc. https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932/suggestions/31929016
- Including the card right into email templates. To notify members about the card administrator can email a link to the membership card by including the {Profile_URL} macro
And… What will be released very soon:
- Ability to put member photo on the card
- Administrator will see the card on the membership tab of specific member, to check it or print it
Check our help page for more details https://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Membership+cards
We hope you’ll like it. Please leave your feedback anytime by email, by using in-product feedback form and use Wishlist for sharing your new suggestions.
Thank you for your patience!
Have a great day!

any updates on this feature?

a lot of groups, online communities etc. are awarding "badges" to members for accomplishments - for example in one community I received a badge for being a 'tester/feedback' member on some software
So I was thinking that being able to incorporate these "badges" onto the Member profile would be great - I believe that the actual badges could be managed outside WA - but would love a widget or something where they could be linked to the member profile.

Ability to provide an membership card, including when membership expires, that can be displayed or printed or emailed when requested by a member. This should be provided for all members in the DB, not just for new or renewing members.

Automatic certification (PDF) file
- can be emailed to members when they sign up
- or better, can be viewed by the member online at any time; and they can send a link to others for purpose of evidence of membership -
Jason, the first release will include the member's access to their card from the profile page.

Does this thread include the ability to issue a website badge members can stick on their website? Possibly coded to their profile page on the website or at least the site in general.

Just wanted to let everyone know we've created an automated system using the Wild Apricot API that:
1) checks your membership status and if active let's you generate a digital certificate/wallet card/etc
2) a separate custom system extracts ANY information from a member/contact profile
and
3) routes it to a system called WebMerge.me that will auto merge the Wild Apricot data into one or more PDFs.
This is a 100% self serve system that does NOT require ANY administrative access to use. Your members use their logged in profiles to generate their own secure, unalterable digital documents.
You can use a custom design, Word, PDF or PowerPoint template for the input and all files are generated as PDF. They can also be automatically emailed with custom messages and attachments.
The use of the Wild Apricot API is key for this solution, and unlike other custom solutions that require manual work this one is 100% self-service.
Here's a video of the process:

I have a very nice solution for this that allows you to automatically (1) generate certificates/cards, (2) save each as a separate PDF file, and (3) automatically email them to each member. If interested, contact me at kim@sisterwebs.com.

Dawn, we just start the development and unfortunately don't know when it will be released. Our nearest release will be in a month, without this feature. Probably the next one, in summer.
We will post the update here as soon as it will know.Katya, Astra crew

Is there an ETA on this feature? Our membership renewal is June 1 and would love to be able to generate new membership cards this year.
Thanks!

It would also be great if these could be used to track CEUs or a certification that is in addition to membership. And tracking expiration dates with email reminders would be even better! (I apologize if this has already been said)

We use a 3" x 4" card that we print in bulk avery stock and then have to cut an mail thousands of these every year. The holy grail for us is having the member receive access to the new badge after payment is made and be able to print them. We would need to be able to design the card and put elemets like Membership type, Name, member number, classification along with a background photo and possibly the member photo (currently we don't have member photo). We would want to customize font size. All of our members must wear the badge on property. We use electronic cards to control access that are bulk enabled/disabled after our yearly renewal deadline, so the card is only used for ID.

We do an export after adding each new/renewed member to a 'needs card printed' group, then save the export to a specially formulated Excel spreadsheet. The printer reads from this and we print onto plastic cards pre-made with our club information, logo, etc preprinted. Zebra card printer ZXP series 3. The mailing labels have to be done via mail-merge to Word and printed via our office printer on 3x7 label sheets. All a long process and prone to falling over when changes are made and formulas lost. The card printer we use isn't very good and the ink finish is scrappy, so open to a quicker, easier option. We have to print over 3700 per year.

I currently send every member a credit card type membership card. It is printed on a Fargo DTC1250e and the ability to export or print direct to my machine would be extremely helpful. Every time a member renews or signs up they get a member card.

This is a feature I have been doing some thinking about recently. There are really lots of use cases for the ability to generate a dynamic document. It's essentially a riff of the email personalization feature, except instead of an email you are personalizing a PDF document.
A product called webmerge.me is available to be used for this purpose and accepts API calls. So in theory it would be possible to create a Google Spreadsheet that downloads WA contact data via API (or just export/import) and then use WebMerge API to generate PDFs in batch outside of WA. This is something I have been working on using Google Sheets.
The general application of such a PDF generation capability could be built into the product on the admin first to essentially allow admins to generate pre defined PDF files much like webmerge does it.
I think self service is an interesting idea, but I would vote for having this be doable in the backend first. Once the general PDF-merge engine was available, it can be used in a variety of ways.
Coupled with the email notifications the feature could be extended to fire off email notifications attached with the PDF file to members.
One note: it is a must to be able to merge some unique ID (WA user ID) or some user defined counter into a certificate. That way this information can be used to validate a certificate. It can also be used for other processes like creating swipable plastic cards which would be done with the generated PDF files but then outsourced to the printer of the cards.

We print badges for each meeting from the registration list. To be able to do this through the web site would be a true time saver.
