Generating membership cards and certificates
Current behavior:
Membership certificates/cards can be produced by running a search, exporting records and using something like MS Word mail merge
Desired behavior:
Ability to directly setup in the system layout and fields for membership certificates/cards and then to print them using common label formats.
Notes:
Details about specific desired formats/layouts/label sizes would be appreciated.
Hello, dear supporters!
This suggestion has accumulated many votes over years and is one of top 3 in “Members” category.
We’re happy to announce that the Membership Card is now ready for your use! Some of you already participated in beta-testing of this feature and using it already. We really appreciate your participation, time and feedback.
As all big threads, this one contains several suggestions. Some of them are covered in the release, some are not. Let’s jump into it.
What released: Members can download and print membership cards using the design you create with the templates provided. Once you design and publish your card, members can view, download, and print their cards from their member profiles.
What is not covered yet:
- Membership certificates https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932/suggestions/8825803
- Certificates for attendees https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932/suggestions/19171474
- Ability to put Barcodes or QR codes on the card. We are conducting technical analysis of this update. https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932/suggestions/31925269
- Bulk printing or printing on plastic by using templates, like Avery, etc. https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932/suggestions/31929016
- Including the card right into email templates. To notify members about the card administrator can email a link to the membership card by including the {Profile_URL} macro
And… What will be released very soon:
- Ability to put member photo on the card
- Administrator will see the card on the membership tab of specific member, to check it or print it
Check our help page for more details https://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Membership+cards
We hope you’ll like it. Please leave your feedback anytime by email, by using in-product feedback form and use Wishlist for sharing your new suggestions.
Thank you for your patience!
Have a great day!

I second (or third etc) the request to provide membership cards/dynamic status.
We want our members to be able to go online to display and PRINT or download a membership card whenever they wish.
We want this ability to be available whenever a members wishes to access this function, not just at the beginning of their membership.

I would like the system to AUTOMATICALLY generate a membership certificate and card at renewal time when the membership status is changed from pending renewal to the status prior to renewal time.
The certificate and card can be manually uploaded to the system and indicate to the system where it needs data to be filled. Such as members name, members number and year of renewal period etc
I cannot fathom that the system does not provide such a function considering most organisations either send out yearly certificates for registration purposes. From reading the wish list there are plenty of people requesting such a function? So far the modifications you have implemented are good, but this would be magically and right up there.

Totally agree with this post. We are trying to get membership cards generated that could be emailed to members and printed as PDF. There are lots of newsletter templates that we don't use, but I sure would like to see a customizable membership card. I created one with tables but it's not what we're looking for.

I see this has been requested since 2008! Yes, this is a huge issue with our membership. It would solve a major headache for our membership director who is searching for solutions for membership cards that show our current vendor sponsors on the back where they can get discounts. If our membership can either print them on their own on demand as needed and get the new one automatically as a pdf with their annual renewal it would solve this major expense of time and cost. Basic fields for text and logos.
We just migrated to WA this past fall and will soon be implementing the online discounts through the membership login. However, we still have physical stores that would need to see the membership cards for our local family owned photography related vendors.
I hope to see this feature move up on the priority list - it has been languishing far too long and in today's world is a basic feature for membership databases.

Is it possible to incorporate a system like they have out for making Business cards for making membership cards. We use print shop for doing this but it would be nice to be able to do it on site were all the info of each person is on hand instead of jumping back and forth between two programs. I am not a computor wiz so I need something fairly easy.

I fully support this feature, but with a slightly broader general scope so that it can fulfill multiple functions.
It would be an html editor that allows the admin to create an HTML 'card' with an image as the background. Then the admin could add the card text on top of the image, including Macros. Macros would allow member info, event info, payment info, etc.
Then once the card is created it could be saved to a library. The admin could 'Assign' any card in the library to individuals, groups, or maybe even event attendees.
Users could login and view all of their cards and each card would display their custom information via the Macros.
This would allow one feature that could produce:
Achievement Cerificates
Event Attendance Cards
Member Cards
..and more. There are lots of applications.

I'd like to add the functionality to easily create an ID card that the member could print once logged into the website.
Thus the club member can self-service the need to have a valid ID card to use to take advantage of membership discounts.
The functionality is a simple extension of the newsletter / mail merge into an image- but only available for the actual member when logged in - thus the need for a special page to do add to the private area of the web site.

We are trying to attach a new member certificate to an email, and in that attachment, insert a macro for the member's first name, last name, and date joined. Right now, we can only attach a generic new member certificate with no personalization.
We feel this would be a great added feature.
Thanks,

Supporting fully this. I am looking for a JPG or preferably PDF format output for Badges and Certificates, right from the system, based on filter of available data.

I'll add my vote; an option off the membership screen to print a card would be beneficial, and would save us some mailing costs and time.

I can't believe this is still unresolved since 2008, but I guess it's not a priority for most WA customers. Back in 2008 it seems that I commented that it wasn't a priority for me -- lol! Well, times change :-) Since then, I've come across multiple clients who would like this capability in one form or another. Some want a simple membership card that could fit in a wallet, others want a more display-worthy membership certificate.
Recently, I was in need of the latter: a somewhat fancy membership certificate that members could print out and frame for display in their offices. The organization had previously used a Powerpoint template to print them out, but they've grown to the point where this is too time consuming. They wanted something that could be automated from the WA database to fill in the name and renewal date.
After a lot of trial and error, I was able to create an email template for this purpose. There were a lot of little gotchas to work around related to HTML and CSS getting stripped off by the email clients, printers not printing background images, getting a reasonable size for printing, and so forth.
If anyone is interested in details and an example, contact me directly: kim@sisterwebs.com

P.S. Mail merge is only good if I am going to be printing them out myself. If I want to email the certificates to the members and have them print it out, then mail merge doesn't help much. (Plus, I don't know what it is, but I find mail merge very confusing to use and I try to avoid it. Maybe it's just me.)

After reading all the posting about printing membership cards, I decided to add a "card" to our welcome letter so our members can print it out on their own. I have noted this during the membership join/renew process as well as give people the continued option of requesting a card in the mail. If anyone wants to see my solution, please feel free to email me at arosenberg@csrc.org.

is there a forum or other venue in WA where those of us comfortable with mail-merge could help those with needs get started?
this looks like it won't be in the system anytime soon, so "banding together" we might be able to help each other.

Our main focus for the next ~5 months is to finish the CMS redesign in version 5 so we are putting everything else aside. So no progress here.

Ok it has been pretty much 5 years since this was first discussed... where are we with this feature?
-
Chris Ogden commented
I am new to this discussion. In fact I am not yet a user of WA, but am checking it out with a view to becoming one.
Mailing labels are essential for the society I represent. We produce a printed and bound literary journal once a year which needs to be mailed to about 170 members worldwide.
Currently I use a PC stand-alone (Access database) system with terrible member management, clunky email facility and no on-line presence, but it does let me produce Avery-style mailing labels .
I admit to being puzzled why this is so hard to implement; or maybe it's just because not many users need or want it?
Microsoft mail merge is possible, but as already noted for non-techies it's yet another problem to master.
So, here is one more request for this to be reconsidered.

Hi,
It would make life a lot easier if we could have a module that enabled us to automate our badge ordering.
The way it could work is as follows.
1)New member joins (after approval if this is a requirement) We auto approve all joining members
2)An automated preset email is sent to an email address (generally the badge company or the person who is responsible to order the badge)with the members name and company name.
3) a log is created to show the badge order has been sent.
This way we don't need to manually check each month to see which new members we need to order name badges for. Also it help make our new members part of the group having a badge sooner.
I hope there is more interest in this from other users.
Regards
Alem
