Multi-session events with a single registration (e.g. courses)
Current behavior:
Events can not recur automatically, each instance has to be created manually.
Desired behavior:
Ability to setup automatically recurring events, for example monthly board meetings
Notes:
1) We need to figure out what kind of recurrence is required, for example:
- every XX weeks on a certain day
- monthly on certain date
- monthly on a certain weekday (e.g. 2nd Tuesday of each month)
2) probably should be able to set max number of recurrence
3) Initially we will not address the ability to register and pay for several events in the series.
UPDATED: This post is to be focused on particular scenario - multiple sessions but with single registration for all (e.g. course). For another scenario where registration and event descriptions can be different for each occurrence, see http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/9056287-recurring-events-scenario-2-separate-registratio
Released in v5.6 (Oct 2015)

In addition, we sometimes have events that are coming up "in the fall" for example, but we don't have a date/time yet. We want to let people know that we have something coming, but we are forced to choose a date. We also just had a 4 part event, but with one registration. It was a nightmare to figure out how to implement it.

We have many events that occur weekly, and at least 1 event that occurs monthly. We have been waiting for this feature for as long as we have had Wild Apricot. And the current work around is absolutely unworkable. We have classes that occur on the same day, the same time for 6 weeks and we probably have 50 of them. Our work around is to enter a start date and an end date 6 weeks later. Wreaks havoc on the calendar view. Sure would be nice to have recurring events! As with many other commenters, I have posted on is forum years ago requesting it. And I echo some of the other comments here lately that it is by far the biggest gap in your program.

I would very much like this added. Even if it were just possible to Create multiple events and group them together for a single registration. That would work for me, so long as I could enable registering for the group event and disable registration for individual days.

There was already a Wishlist topic on this, so I moved your post into it.

Can you move this thread to the wish list then please?
I'd like to see the option "Open ended" (or something similar) for a start time on an event.
-
Alain commented
Unfortunately, this is not possible. The Start date field is mandatory, but the end date and times are not required.

Is there a way to set up an event without a start and end date? For example, we would like to feature audio conferences that members can listen to at their convenience.

No - not this year. We're on analysis and design stage now.

Just curious, has this been fixed yet?

Just giving our support for this. Most of our events are one single event that is split over a period of time, for example once per week for three weeks or two months (or composed of several sessions or however you want to look at it). For example http://www.wice-paris.org/coursesbydate?eventId=590896&EventViewMode=EventDetails. We have to put the start and end date in the appropriate fields then list the actual dates in the text.
This means we can't use the WA calendar (as explained in the orginal post these show as several-week long events that take place every day between the start and end date - we disabled our calendar so you can't see it) and have to manually input all the dates into a google calendar every quarter, which luckily does allow for one event to be split over recurring dates (http://www.wice-paris.org/calendar).
Anything you could do about this would be much appreciated, expecially by those volunteers that have to maintain the google calendar :)

I'd like to see this too.

I'd like to hear other comments on that - if this is a frequent case or not. Probably this should be resolved as a part of http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/8825581-recurring-events-2528 (not sure - here you are talking about same single event split by week while the link is about recurring events)

Add me to the list clamoring for scenario #1. I would be delighted if there could just be a way to create multiple totally separate identical events.
We have two events that occur weekly. Then we have different events almost every Friday evening, so it would be nice to create a generic recurring event and then edit just the details of each one.
This would seem to be an easy addition to your Scenario #2. Provide an option to create distinct events instead of one recurring one. Use the same menu structure, everything the same, just at the end create distinct events.
Then in a future release deal with the broader issue of editing an entire scenario #1 series, if desired.
The first one (limited series) can be workarounded by quickly duplicating an event - we have recently introduced a simplified way to do this.
Depends what you mean by "quickly."
* Click Duplicate.
* Click Admin only.
* Click Public.
* Click Save.
* Click Edit
* Highlight "(Copy)" in title.
* Delete it.* Click Start date.
* Click the new date.
* Click Save.My club has only two weekly recurring events, so let's see - that's 10 clicks times 52 weeks times 2 events ... over a thousand clicks.Quickly?

Will there be separate 'Check-in' for each session ?
We offer lunch at our Multiday sessions and we would like them to be to choose their lunch for the different Sessions And we want to record a lunch for each session if they order it.
We want a client to register for the Series once, but make choice for each day

For now, we will be focus on scenario #2. The first one (limited series) can be workarounded by quickly duplicating an event - we have recently introduced a simplified way to do this.
But keep in mind - scenario #2 can be useful for you too. We just add into event details ability to define multiple time slots. We called them sessions, but really there are just dates and times of your event series.

Hi -
Would it be possible to offer #1 (even call it "limited" event series) sooner, if registration were to be decoupled from an initial release of an 'event series' capability?
I'm currently on a trial of Wild Apricot, and this is a big issue for my organization...
Thank you very much!

Perhaps a better description of this is recurring registrations -- not recurring events.

The ability to schedule multiple recurring events each with their own sign-up is what the PAYING users of this web site desire. This is long overdue for implementation.

Evgeny Zaritovskiy commented
We will get to scenario #1 (separate registrations for each recurring event) after scenario #2 (single registration for multiple event occurrences).

Mona Schorow commented
Did you really mean:
we decided to start with scenario #2 and then continue with the second one later.
1. Events series is what we need and our organization would use it (literally) twenty times each week. Support for recurring events has been requested of WA since 2009 and its lack is very irking problem to our organization. I don't see a WA plan to resolve it.
2. Events with sessions would not be used at all by our organization and doesn't address what most organizations have requested.
