I agree it makes the database quite messy when you run lots of events and need to keep them all.
An easier way to deal with it may be to allow events to be archived after a certain time, like Contacts can be, but retain all the information to avoid creating overpayments. This would clean up the event screen. We would find this type of feature, or a simple date search that allows you to only show events since a certain date on the main list, very useful.
After only two years of use we have 438 events in the list, so you can imagine how difficult it is to navigate or to get a global view of what we are doing, esepcially given that you can't create a simple event list excel report with an event per line, basic start and end dates and a summary of number of participants and total payments This would also be a wonderful feature.

Our top needs would be:
- Date filter - display only events between x date and y date. This would need to be events that are in progress or starting during this period, i.e. would need to include events that started before the 'from' date and have not yet finished.
- Filter by tag - in theory you can do this now, but you would need to create unique tags that wouldn't appear in general text. E.g. we have a department called Visual Arts, which we tag va, but a search for this also picks up any words containing 'va'.
- Full/Not full - so we could just view events that are full/not full.
- Events with pending registrations
The first two would be of most use to us.
It would be good to keep the option to display the whole list without having to use the date search. For example, if I wanted a list of all Visual Arts courses ever done, it would be perferable not to have to set the 'from' date to several years ago to ensure I haven't missed any, which is how the Finances pages currently work. It would be easier if you could choose either display whole list or filter it by date, and then drill down further. Other users might have different requirements.
Hope that helps.
