Allow secondary/alternate emails for members
Current features:
Each contact/member (company or individual) can only have one email that is used to receive messages.
Desired features:
Allow contacts/member to have multiple emails that can be used to receive emails.
Sorry for the late update.
The first step was finished and emails can now be carbon copied to contact’s alternative emails. To do so the contact fields which store the alternative emails must be explicitly marked on the email setting page.
Unsubscribing will unsubscribe all alternative emails simultaneously because they all belong to the very same account. The person clicking “unsubscribe” is warned about this on the unsubscribe page.
For now we paused the development of this feature. but not for good. :) So I’m changing this wish status back to “collecting comments”.
Thank you everyone for a valuable feedback.

This assumes that people would bother to enter those other emails - and I am not sure many people would do that.
I would appreciate comments/ideas from others.

Hi - do you have an ETA please? Ever so important for my organisation and a #1 priority please.

I need the same functionality. Each member is a lake lot but there are often renters or spouses. I need to send emails to multiple email addresses.

Our member base is primarily business owners and CEOs. Many of them request that we also copy their assistants on correspondence, as their assistants often keep their calendars, etc... We do not need this for all of our members, just for the ones that would like to have their assistants in the loop on all communication.
It would be ideal if WA would make adding a second email option for communication to "one" record available in one of their upcoming updates.
Thank you.

The scenario you are describing didn't come to our mind when we analysed the feature - this is exactly why we started to post our solutions before actual implementation.
If we get significant feedback from other people requiring multiple extra emails, we might come to redesigning the feature (even if we get feedback after release). However, at this point I would agree with Apricot Kernel that it should be addressed in more wide Family/Child membership thread.

This is something we want to address as a part of another thread - http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/8825986-family-child-memberships-8131 - focused on family memberships. There we'll be analyzing all scenarios and finding best solutions.

I am a relatively new Apricot user. Our association services the families within our neighborhood. As such, the "family" is our user and that typically consists of two adults plus children. In the past we maintained our membership with MS Access, Excel and Constant Contact. What a pain!
With Wild Apricot we eliminated two of the three but still use Constant Contact because the families have multiple emails. At a minimum we have an email for the primary user (login) and their spouse. More often than not both have secondary emails (work vs. home).
I like your design to cc: the secondary email. That should be easy for you to implement with minimal overhead on your system. But from my standpoint, this falls just a little short.
It would be great if we could also have two additional secondary email fields ("Spouse's Email" and "Spouse's Secondary Email") for a total of three additional emails.
I know you can't please everyone but while you have the cover off of the box why not add just a little more flexibility.
Thank you for the consideration!

Secondary email for contacts will be added in one of the following Wild Apricot releases. This feature is already designed and I want to present it to you - check link below

Our club has family memberships and we need to send emails (events, email blasts, newsletters, invoices, etc.) to multiple email addresses associated with a single member record. In our case, we have both spouses that want to receive emails from Wild Apricot. We need to specify multiple email addresses per member record when sending emails. WA said that we needed to create separate member records for this. I thought more about the idea of having separate membership records. This would work, but it really complicates membership management. We have several membership levels that have renewal fees associated with them. If we have to create additional member records for the spouse emails, which membership level are they associated with? How can we link them the family membership with the spouse email member record? What happens when the paid membership record is suspended or archived... do we then have to manually find the other spouse member record to make sure that one is archived/suspended as well? Do we create a membership level for each type of spouse member record that associated with the different membership levels? As you can see this becomes a rather complicated, manual process because there is no way to link the two types of member records, i.e., the one that is the paid member record that has the renewal fee and the spouse member record. It would be much easier if you provided support for more than one email address. Here is a thought. Create a new data field type "email" and offer an option (checkbox) that when checked emails sent to the member will also be sent to any alternate email addresses in the record that have the checkbox checked.
Thanks,Keith -

My membership record contains a home and work email addresses and but the majority of emails are stored in the home email field. Email blasts are not picking the home email address but the work email address.
Is there a way to point the system to the home email address or get it to use both addresses? Or copy the home email to the work email using a script?
I hope someone can shed some light on this situation.
thanks

I'd like ask for the additional email feature as well. I'm a new Apricot, just getting started. Our current membership system allows for multiple (as many as we want) email addresses. We use these emails primarily for communication (email blasts) and other inquiries made to members.
Of our ~ 600 members, the majority (~ 50%) only have 1 email. most of the rest have 2. About 5% have more than 2 email addresses.
i'm setting up a bundled membership so that i can setup the additional members. This will keep us within the next limit - but it also requires additional overhead to maintain separate membership records.
I'd request that there be a 2nd email for a contact account. That will address the vast majority of my members and require much less overhead for the system administrator.
We are all volunteers - so this will make a pretty big difference.
Thanks,
Phil

I want to echo the request for the ability to add another email address. Our bike club has close to 2000 contacts. For us, as many, our family memberships include husband and wife, each having their own unique email address. Quite disappointing to see this discussion going back so many years without any progress at all.

Kathleen, this is very interesting - can you give us an example of how are you using bundles in this context? Also, what are the challenges re re-assigning Bundle Admin.

We have a secondary member field, but it's pretty useless. Doesn't achieve what you're looking for.
We have used the "Bundle" feature in WA to allow us to eblast to ALL contacts within our business membership holders. It's slick. It has challenges regarding re-assigning "Bundle Administrator" status, but it has solved our communications problem.

We haven't made a final decision about this yet. It's not something we would undertake for at least the next 12 months, sorry.

Hi
Last update on this topic (which started in 2008) was 3/2012. I am considering to buy this software as it nearly meets all my needs. The lack of a back up email is going to be painful. All the discussion was around concerns about significant increase of email. For me, of the 100+ members I plan on having initially, I will say I only have 5 family that want a back up... ie both the husband and wife both want emails on events, etc...
May I know if this has made it into some future plan? Also I have no problems with an additional cost. Perhaps you can say 20 total backs up are free and after that each back up email will be added to your total number of members? Perhaps you had something in mind. My viote is to simply just pick something and lets get this added. Reading this thread which started in 2008, clearly there a lot of customer demand. In my case, the lack of this feature may need me taking a pass on purchasing...
Please advise if this feature is coming, so I can properly make my final decision for purchasing wild Apricot. If you like me to help test this, I am happy to as this feature is very important to me in that I would be willing to invest time if it meant me getting this.

We also need to be able to specify additional e-mails for a member.
We are using a text field for this data now as a custom field.
Primarily, we want the e-mail checked for validity when entering. Being able to use the second/third e-mail address in e-mail blasts would be an added benefit.

The backup email would work fine for my needs - has this received any addtl thought/vetting? What I've done is essentially the same thing - I've got a field called email1 on the main member/contact record and then added another field called email2. So I'm allowing my users to keep the directory up to date which is a huge improvement - but getting lots of complaints that general emails from the system (not event specific - just standard "Email All Contacts" ones) are only going to email1.

Thank you for commenting - I could not have explained better, you are exactly right. There is also an issue of more complex logic for displaying stats for contacts, email preferences etc.

This does not affect my organization but as someone who does web application management professionally I understand where WA is coming from. Email functionality is a key cost. If someone wants to have multiple emails per account (potentially up to 50 as someone mentioned) it will have a significant impact on the infrastructure costs. Notice they don't charge differently if you have 50 content pages or 500 content pages. That is not a significant impact on infrastructure cost.
If you have 400 members with 600 email addresses you could potentially be sending 600 emails at one time. Another approach they could take is to charge you a smaller amount for the number of members but charge you for each email sent. That's a more complex model though because then they have to keep track of the number of emails and bill accordingly. The current model is very simple.
Your request is valid but to expect to pay the same price for that feature is not realistic.
