Sorry for the late update.
The first step was finished and emails can now be carbon copied to contact’s alternative emails. To do so the contact fields which store the alternative emails must be explicitly marked on the email setting page.
Unsubscribing will unsubscribe all alternative emails simultaneously because they all belong to the very same account. The person clicking “unsubscribe” is warned about this on the unsubscribe page.
For now we paused the development of this feature. but not for good. :) So I’m changing this wish status back to “collecting comments”.
Thank you everyone for a valuable feedback.

Hi
Last update on this topic (which started in 2008) was 3/2012. I am considering to buy this software as it nearly meets all my needs. The lack of a back up email is going to be painful. All the discussion was around concerns about significant increase of email. For me, of the 100+ members I plan on having initially, I will say I only have 5 family that want a back up... ie both the husband and wife both want emails on events, etc...
May I know if this has made it into some future plan? Also I have no problems with an additional cost. Perhaps you can say 20 total backs up are free and after that each back up email will be added to your total number of members? Perhaps you had something in mind. My viote is to simply just pick something and lets get this added. Reading this thread which started in 2008, clearly there a lot of customer demand. In my case, the lack of this feature may need me taking a pass on purchasing...
Please advise if this feature is coming, so I can properly make my final decision for purchasing wild Apricot. If you like me to help test this, I am happy to as this feature is very important to me in that I would be willing to invest time if it meant me getting this.
