Allow manual sorting of membership levels [3334]
Current behavior:
Updated after v 2.39: Membership levels are sorted automatically - alphabetically by membership level name.
Desired behavior:
Enable manual sorting of membership levels.
(This is mostly important for the membership application page)
Released in 5.2

Membership Levels appear to display in alpha order, by Level Name, when using the Membership Application gadget. It would be great to be able to define the display order, rather than using artificial Level names [like 1)..., 2)...] to force a specific display order.

We are currently working on adding manual sorting order to Member application gadget and I want to share the progress with you.
(Click on the image below to start presentation)
This feature will be addressed in 5.2. release, currently planned for beginning of November 2014. You can always track current progress in Roadmap thread http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/8827717-roadmap-2015-plans-releases-expected-dates .

you can control which levels people can apply to or renew to on a level General setting tab - see http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC50/Membership+levels#Membershiplevels-Generalsettings
More than that, on a specific web page with Membership application gadget, you can later set up the levels you want to exclude on this particular application page. So you can create multiple application pages, each showing different levels.

I need to hide various membership levels so they do not appear on the online membership application list. I want them to only slect form a limited list of membership levels.
We currently have three levels
Ordinary Membership
Life Membership and Administration Membership
I need to prevent the user from being able to see let alone select the other levels
This is a serious flaw in the system along with the renewal notice being shown before the grace period renewals are due.
I am sicked that this has not been addressed,

Being able to re-order membership levels is important to my organization also. We had numbered levels, which looked very strange on our website and in our renewal emails. So I recently removed the numbers, and now the levels are in alphabetical order which doesn't make sense.
Our levels are: Friend, Family, Student/Senior, Partner, Champion, and Sponsor. The Friend level is the most frequently used and I would prefer that be listed first. But now the order appears with Champion listed first, which is a $500 membership, and would be a turn-off to people looking at the list.

Is anything new here? Do we have an option for non alphabetized sorting of membership levels without adding a number in front of the level. (The alphabetical listing is the opposite of the way our organization would like them to display. Thanks

Is there a way to un-order the membership levels in the Membership Functional page from alphabetized to un-alphabetized (ie: by membership cost or level of benefit)?
In my example, I have 5 membership levels listed in this order by default:
Business Advisor - $2500 annually
Business Affiliate - $250 annually
Business Partner - $1500 annually
Individual Member - $100 annually
Student Member - $35 annuallyI would like to have them ordered by dollar amount:
Business Advisor - $2500 annually
Business Affiliate - $250 annually
Business Partner - $1500 annually
Individual Member - $100 annually
Student Member - $35 annuallyHere is the link to the site for more detail about my issue http://scceba.biz/membership_application

We would also like to see this sorting feature applied across the system, including registration types for events. We always highlight our member discounted rates first as a way to promote membership, but because the list is sorted alphabetically, it does not happen.

Thanks for the suggestion Gary, appreciated. Not a one hour fix by far though :-) My personal take is that this is too 'techy' for most of our clients, we need to implement a proper drag-and-drop interface.

You could get the same functionality with much less work.
Simply add a string field named SortPrefix. Have it default to an empty string, for backwards compatibility. Have the sort logic sort alphabetically on SortPrefix + Name. The sort prefix would never be displayed. It only would affect the sort order.
This seems like a one-hour fix. I'd rather have this approach implemented and the remaining time applied towards Search Engine Optimization (a root level Sitemap.xml file, URLs with blog and forum title text embedded instead of query string parameters, much better support for File Not Found and Gone headers, etc.)

Update Our team has come up with a design for manually sorting membership levels that we wanted to share with everyone.
It has however not been scheduled for development yet so if you see anything missing or have any feedback please post it here.
SolutionAllow full administrators and membership managers to manually sort the order of Membership levels using a drag-and-drop list. The order defined under 'Members > Levels' will be the order used in all area (Public and Administrative) where membership levels are listed. Other Changes:
Membership Level Summary - The members summary currently found under 'Members' will be moved to Members > Levels and will display the total members in each level and there current state (i.e., Active, Pending, etc). (see "B" in the illustration) Member Directories - If sorted by Membership level the manual order you create will be used. Administration Areas - All screens that contain a list of Membership levels (e.g,. Member Directory Settings, Discount Coupons, etc) will use the manual order set by you. We are also definitely in need of a manual sort feature. It would be best if this could be applied across the entire system (i.e. on the application forms, in our membership administration summary page, the membership levels page, etc.).
However most importantly is the sorting feature for the application forms and public pages, as the public is less familiar with our membership structure than we are, and our application process currently does not have much logic to it because of the default order.
Every time our members and other customers have to decipher a page rather than working with what makes sense to them, this reflects poorly on our organization as having an "easy to use" website.
Thanks for working on this.

We investigated this and found the reason we had to start trimming spaces - extra spaces were resulting in confusion during import and creation of duplicated levels which looked the same but differed in spaces (which were easy to miss obviously when you look at Excel cell with level name)
So unfortunately we can not revert this change - for now other workarounds for sorting have to be used until we get to implement manual sort of levels.

Since implementing manual sort is a big chunk of work, we will revisit our decision on trimming spaces, stay tuned.

Please let the rest of us know the results of your support request.
Dmitry: Why did you introduce the trimming of white space in the first place? I don't remember seeing a demand for it from these forums. Could it be removed easily until you can introduce proper sorting?

We also noticed this issue as soon as it happened and sent a technical support request separately. It's important for us to be able to sort the membership levels as well.

Only just noticed that the membership level order has changed because you now remove leading spaces.
Do you have any timescale decdided for providing a manual sort option? Our membership levels use numbers which make adjusting things to the right order based on names difficult and confusing.Regards,

You are right - we are now trimming extra spaces. So for now you would need to use other characters, e.g. underscore, dots - or number the levels in desired sort order
We will also raise the priority of manual level sort

I believe that this function no longer works with the newest update. The membership levels do not hold the spaces in front of items and therefore the sort order is alphabetical.
