Validate e-mail addresses
Member registration does not validate emails. This is an extra concern for sites like ours where members can join for free. Anyone can make up an email address, or worse impersonate someone else. Once an email is used, it cannot be used by another person, even if the first person is not the owner of the address and the second person is.
Please consider adding an email validation check that sends an email and requires the applicant to use a code that was emailed (or click a link).

No and it has never worked.

I did not know the checking of email address were not being checked. This would be a requirement for my site. I am glad you brought this to my attention. Is this feature working now?

Anybody wants to comment on this?

+1 for this feature.
I just have ~120 members but I've had to change an incorrect email address twice and re-send emails they missed.

I also agree with the need for a email confirmation field. This is, for us, probably more important where we have membership registrations snail mailed to us and we have someone inputting the data transcribed from the mailed in form. It is a good way for the person inputting the information to make sure they get it correctly. And since this system is based directly off of email addresses, I think it is important to make sure that one piece of information is absolutely correct.

can you please give an example of such rejected email?

Another vote for retype email feature. Also, I'm told that some email addresses get rejected that should pass per RFC2822.

Password is now asked twice on all forms.

Yes, this is a good idea.
We often encounter this problem. Sounds like it should be easy enough to implement??Regards

Good idea.
If a new member does a typo in their registration they are locked out of the system and will remain so till the admin notices the undeliverable emails or the member complains.
Also true of event registrations.

A new member contacted me to find out if their membership registration went through. They had not received a registration confirmation or invoice, but I had received the administrator's copies. When I checked, I found that they had left out a single "i" in their email address. Would it be possible to add a Confirm your email field to the Contact form?

We do this manually -- just by adding another field and asking them to retype -- and it works well, though it would be great to have it function officially as a re-type email field.

We will monitor feedback on this and prioritize accordingly. For now, we have quite a few items which have been outstanding for long time and seem to have more feedback than this particular issue. I do not expect us to be able to get to this for at least 6 months, probably more, sorry.

Any idea when this might be "on the roadmap"?
As our database gets bigger and bigger, I am finding more and more incorrect email addresses coming through which just take up management time chasing it up!
For example, I have had to deal with 3 today alone.
If its not looked at soon I think we'll have to find another provider as we are currently paying Wild Apricot $100/mth for a system that does not deal properly with this issue and actually causes great inconvenience for us (to chase up) and our members (when they try to log in with their correct email address only to be told it isnt on the system!)
As I say, I think this is really a fundamental issue to any database-driven service. Does anyone else agree with me on this?
Can you at least possibly give me some idea of when it will be considered?

Your comment is appreciated and well taken.
This item is not yet on our roadmap, sorry we have to deal with a number of other things first.

I think this is an absolutely ESSENTIAL addition.
I note with interest that in order to get this "support portal" account, you DO need to:
1. enter your email address TWICE, then
2. CONFIRM the email address by clicking on a link in an automated email
So why do we not have this option as paying users of Wild Apricot?
To my mind, both the above are BEST PRACTICE for ANY sort of system that captures user data and email addresses.
We have had so many incorrect email addresses, which require chasing up and admin time when users/members complain (even though it is their fault!) and also, we have even had some occasions where users/members actually gave the WRONG address (eg: xxx@hotmail.com instead of XX@hotmail.co.uk).
So can we PLEASE have both double-entry of email AND confirmation via a link before membership is active at least as an OPTION that can be enabled/disabled as admin requires?
I really think this ought to be a priority for any decent membership-based system, as at the moment it is not really up to scratch.
Can you look at this as a matter of urgency please?

I would also like to see this option added. Being able to confirm an email address or password is a great idea.

Adding the "Confirm/Retype Email" would be a big assist and stop a lot of problems at the beginning of the process. This gets a big 'thumbs up' from us.
