Items can only be sold if they are part of a membership application, event registration, manual invoice or donation.
Desired features:
Create a store of items that can be purchased individually or collectively (e.g. shopping cart)
Hi supporters,
Today the Wild Apricot online store functionality was enabled for all paid accounts. We did our best to roll it out earlier than it was expected so you could try it out before the day of price increase.
Please fill out this survey to let us know what is missing in the initial version so we could define the followups:

Thanks for all the support and help during beta-test.
Best Regards,

We would like this. We also would like the ability to limit some items by member-type. For example, we would sell some club insignia items for segment of our members that only they should purchase (think Phi Beta Kappa key and polo shirts).
Thanks.

As with most clubs, they often have raffles to raise money for the club and as we try and get members and potential members to go to our website to get the latest news and offerings, it would be great to be able to sell raffle tickets through the website plus some club merchandise, like shirts, hats, jackets etc.
As the Wild Apricot platform has already got built in payment facilities (PayPal) for memberships and events, I believe a simple shopping cart system would be easily adapted.
With our club we would not need shipping costs as the purchaser would pick the item up from our club.

I've created websites for groups that I'm involved with a several times. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not. The successful ones fall into two categories.
First if it's logo items, the effort is significant either for the hosting outfit and/or users. To stock logo items is time consuming, requires many different items to accommodate sizes, sexes, and even logos. Logos are an intense effort (many hours), take experience to design for stitched or printed use, and can be costly (a stitched item will run at least $50 setup for every unique logo). Order taking and sending items, stocking, etc. are potentially huge and costly efforts. In the end I've gone to companies that do all this (made to order) as an online business and linked sites together. In my experience that's the only workable way. A reference for really good custom online store is available if you want it. They refund a decent portion of the sale for fundraisers.
The other types of items (for example private labelled wines for a reunion), that are simple to inventory and are one size fits all, is an easy thing for a hosting company and users to work with. It becomes something like selling a ticket.

We will be working on the list one by one. Keep in mind that all items in the roadmap list are important and we decided not to have special prioritization between them. So we are starting from what is faster and simpler to do for now.
Online store will require quite a lot of development time, so it was pushed to the bottom of the list for now. Most probably will not fit into 2014 but will be processed later, in 2015.

Nici,
I'm with you. It seems like a pretty simple bit of coding to mimic the events module but hey, I could be wrong!
The suggestion for setting up the online store through ecwid.com won't work for us as we want to be able to provide discounted member pricing and have the invoices registered against the contacts on the database so we can monitor who is buying what.
Like you, I'm doing it through the events but it is pretty clunky. If you want multiple items then they are guests, and if you want different items then they are different events and require separate registrations.
The simple changes you suggest would make our lives sooooo much easier for now!

Wow - I just looked at the long list of requested functionality that is to be worked on after v5 is completed. I was absolutely shocked to see an online store doesn't even have one orange square, let along a green one.
I am hoping that this is because there are other references to a "storefront" that allows people to "purchase" a membership, event, sponsorship, donation, etc. all under one invoice? Please tell me, that this development will also include a means to actually offer items for sale??? PLEASE????
Thanks

Try using this http://www.ecwid.com
You can easily add it to your WA website using a line or two of code and the "insert script" on the page editor.
I have used it for other websites I have built - its quick, easy and there is a free version as well if you're on a budge - it also provides all the security that you need for an online shop

Hi,
I know it's been brought up a few times, but for me having an online shop is vital, to the point that without one we're struggling to justify staying with WildApricot.
We've set up a temporary shop as an 'Event' on our site just now, to allow our members to purchase our main items, but it's not ideal.
Thanks,
Gillian

Sorry to give you the bad news - with delays with our new CMS plus some other new initiatives (e.g. mobile roadmap) we pushed the online store out to 2014

The online store has been on the wishlist since 2007. I know that you have been extremely busy working on the new platform. The last message said that it would be done in 2013. Could you please give us an update for the online store?

Add me to the others who would like an online store. I'm mostly interested in digital downloads.
Right now, I just wish we had a "Miscellaneous Payments" option. We currently have two non-physical items we sell to members only - ad on the website and verbal ad at our monthly meeting. It doesn't need a download or anything other than confirmations of the payment.
To offer an online payment option, we use the Donations template. (We don't accept donations otherwise - we are a business group). But it's not quite perfect. I have found a few spots where I can't get the pesky words "donation" or "donor" out. The page template has one I would love to eliminate. I also can't seem to control all the notifcation e-mails. To see what we do, go to
http://www.wesoweb.org/Default.aspx?pageId=1104422
This is a Members Only page so the public can't get to it. Members have to login. The "Donation" word I want to get rid of is right above the required fields for the amount, etc. Can we get into this template and customize it?
Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

Thanks for that info Kerrie Anne.
I just set up the ecwid shopping cart and it was ridiculously easy!!
Seems to have solved the problems I was having.

Awesome. thanks for working on this. Adding an online shopping cart feature to 5.0 or 5.1 would be absolutely AWESOME. Can't wait :)

For anyone who is interested in "plugging in" a store to their WA site, I can recommend ecwid (http://www.ecwid.com )
Yes, it means that user have separate shop accounts to their WA accounts, but it is a simple and easy way to have a full-featured shop sitting inside WA.
I am not associated with ecwid in any way, I have just used it for a couple of client sites and to be honest, would also use it on my own WA site if the need arose.
It can be implemented by way of a couple of lines of code and is easily styled and configured.
Hope this helps some people :-)
Cheers

Hi Dmitry. I agree with an earlier post and have implemented a basic store by utilising the events. I set up a category called 'shop' and then made an event type page and changed the settings so only 'shop' category events show.
With the full store functionality not available for another year, is it possible in an earlier release to create a basic store page where you mimic the events and put on those basic changes (e.g. register button changed to purchase, don't require a date, etc).

The way it stands, we have our hands full until version 5.0 launches in the fall, so the earliest for the online store is in 5.1, some time next year.

Hi! Wondering if there is any update regarding an estimate when the Store function page will be introduced. We are VERY anxious to get it up and running. My organization has a very small staff, and we chose Wild Apricot because of how wonderfully integrated everything is. Not having a store creates a lot of extra administrative work for us.
Advice for others in our shoes: we are using Mal's e-commerce. They don't offer a shopping cart Amazon environment, but you can easily place "pay here" buttons on your site. Mal's is a go between with Wild Apricot and Pay Pal. (We tried to use the Pay Pal widget, but it was intuitive to use - especially now that most of us are used to shopping cart environments.) Mal's basic service is free, which is pretty great. Again, it's administrative work keeping track of orders, but we will probably stick with this until WA releases the Store function page.

@Toni Troop: sorry, no way to track downloads. And unfortunately online store design and development has been postponed for this year as we are busy with another big change.
