Hi supporters,
Today the Wild Apricot online store functionality was enabled for all paid accounts. We did our best to roll it out earlier than it was expected so you could try it out before the day of price increase.
Please fill out this survey to let us know what is missing in the initial version so we could define the followups:

Thanks for all the support and help during beta-test.
Best Regards,

Does an online store have to have its own dedicated tab? Can it be shared on a webpage with half text and images and an online store on the bottom half of the page?

Making the online store as marketplace where other members can also sell the there products and services will take WA to a new level.
Member could be charge a percentage of the sold product or member can be allowed to sell based on there membership.
This will be a game changer feature to have on WA.

I just want to be able to sell and accept gift certificates...

You really need your own ecommerce built in. The Ecwid is nice, but reporting etc is horrible. Actually impacting our overall decision.

This would be an awesome addition, we actually run our complete Account Receivable through WA and would appreciate not having to manually enter these sales in manually.

Please add a way to create product sales through wild Apricot -- without a cumbersome workaround. We have roadblocks because PayPal uses a single IPN and we have that linked to Wild Apricot.

I think for shopping is better to use external software, like http://www.ecwid.com/

When this does make it to development, we would like to see the ability to create many associate fields. For example, for gifting a purchase (membership OR merchandise) to a third party, we need to collect full mailing address and email. We would like to be able to make additional custom fields as well.
Also, since one of our services/products is the submission of essays for possible publication, we would like to use a store to sell an existing member a second (third, fourth) submission of new essays for consideration after their initial submission. For this we would need to collect essay title, teacher of course, etc. as well as using the future file upload capability.

Allow members to purchase items. For instance, I would like to add items for sale, and allow members to purchase those items.

It would be nice if this shopping cart feature also allowed us to specify that these items are "Fundraisers" for certain things.. i.e., education, or legislation (if you're classified to participate)... and reporting should separate them out as such. AND, they MUST have a place to collect sales tax for some types of organizations as they are not sales tax exempt just because you are a non-profit. Also, please don't forget shipping charges, too. This shopping cart feature is something we would certainly use!

Beardo, no offence taken. Compare this: 3-4 people are busy with "seminars" and more than 40 (devs, QA, designers, analysts, deployment) are focus solely on product improvements.
I was saying that all these 40+ people have also different priorities in the system - functional improvements, security, performance, bug fixing, live data monitoring, themes design, and more.
So, believe me or not, but we do spent vast majority of our efforts to the product development.

An integrated store would have exceptional value for our organization. The current option requires setting up two stores, one for members, one for the public.
-
Beardo - we have no doubts about importance of Online store functionality for our clients. I just reflected current state of where we're with this. Until we actually schedule it for development, I cannot promise any date. As usual, we have to balance our development resources between various things, not just wishlist ones.

There is a large vertical market of volunteer organizations made up of creatives (e.g. painters, sculptors, jewelers, potters, knitters, ...) for whom this series of features would make WA the absolute choice of software platform. I have belonged to 6 and been a customer of four more, just in one metropolitan area. Four are already WA clients.
- Allow for large and multiple images per product.
- Allow for items to be designated as unique so that once sold they are somehow marked unavailable.
- Allow acceptance of the terms of the sale to be be required and allow different terms for different product sets (similar to tax applicability), if possible.
-
Beardo, thanks for feedback.
Yes, this is one of the key points in our list of requirements of Online store:
- ability to show/hide products in catalog based on membership and
- ability to define special price for members.
Actually, similar as events module works now - you can define event access/visibility and special registration type for members. -

The ability to post content (reports, whitepapers, articles, video, etc) and make it free for members and pay for non-members on a content by content basis, not simply a pay wall.

I am also currently using events to sell merchandise and it seems to confuse our members. I often have to walk people through how to place an order, especially if they are ordering multiple things and they then need to place several orders or add guests. Often people order things they didn't want because they did not understand how to order and I end up refunding them. Something similar to the events page would work fine for me, just add in things like quantity and shipping cost would be helpful.

+1 to AlexSirota: "The idea of integrating something as complex as an online store into the core WildApricot product is really ambitious."
Dmitri, you already give at least two examples of how to integrate a small online store into WA:
http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Setting+up+an+online+store
http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Adding+PayPal+buttonsI suggest you assign a programmer to create several more of these for different kinds of larger online stores, enough to satisfy the various needs expressed in this thread. (My club needs logowear.) :)
This could probably be done in a person-month or less. And it would get people up and running soon, rather than many months or years down the line.
Otherwise you're looking at a major effort to design, create and implement something that won't quite work for most people, and then an ongoing wishlist area for years to come.
It would be better to use those resources on other enhancements that can only be done within WA.

The idea of integrating something as complex as an online store into the core WildApricot product is really ambitious. There are so many options ranging from WooCommerce in WordPress to Formstack+Integrations on Payment Systems to Shopify.
The question is what pattern of ecommerce is most appropriate for the core customer: I would say the idea of fundraiser events is the thing that needs to be extended. Namely the event system supporting various options for tiers of sponsorships, including what you get with sponsorship tier is the next extension to Events that are required.
A generic ecommerce system is something that can be integrated quite easily outside of WildApricot. The scope and relevance to the most amount of customers who are WA customers is key.
