An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commented@BigBen - yes, this does explain it better. The term Meta tag is usually used in much narrower meaning - web page met-tags - which threw me off.
So in a nutshell you want a 'gadget' which would display a summary of your members by some custom attributes (meta-tags in a broad sense).
I will adjust thread title to reflect this - hope this will help others to comment/vote on this.
FYI - in our next update member directory will have a 'browsing' mode which is somewhat related. E.g. you can have 'Specialty' field for member records and have a list of all specialties with a count of records in each. People will be able to click on a specialty to see all records behind this.
It might even be possible with some Java script wizardry to convert this into something like a tag cloud.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedCan you elaborate further on this?

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedThis is still on the wishlist and we are collecting insights to understand how different organizations do it/what they need. We would really appreciate more details on how you are currently dealing with that in your organization.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedThanks for posting, that's a pretty good outline. Let's see what other users think about this.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedTeri, this has not been included in 4.3, sorry.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedThis makes good sense to me. I am surprised there are no other comments on this thread! Would appreciate thoughts from other users.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedI would appreciate comments from others and examples of how this would be used in practice.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedYou mean Group participation field, right?
This is a system field and for now there is no per-level customization of it.
Thanks for posting this suggestion - this has not come up before. I would appreciate comments and votes from others.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedBradley, right now if you setup free membership with a certain duration, they can renew on their own.
We do not have a good solution for trial memberships, this is something yet to be worked out.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedTiffany,
This sounds like a well-thought workaround, keep us posted on how it works for you.
FYI - in next version 4.3 (~end of November 2011) archived members will be able to apply and their profile would automatically be restored.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedThis comes up periodically in support so I am surprised by lack of feedback on this thread, would really appreciate input from others.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedThere is currently no special way for this. I have seen people add special pages for each event to keep materials, pictures etc.
I would appreciate comments from everyone - what would be an ideal way to do this?

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedIt really depends on:
1) How many people vote on this and provide comments on the thread
2) How often do we get support questions/requests around this
3) How much work to make this change
4) How much other stuff we have in our work queue (currently - a few hundred requests)
So it varies widely - can be anything from a couple of months to a couple of years.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedWe do not have this capability now but this makes total sense and I will move it to Wishlist.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedCan you send the exact code and the page address where you are trying to insert it on to support?
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedAPI is definitely something we are looking at, with high priority.
However, there is no way to build one single magic API which would enable all of the things you listed. Good APIs are built with specific purposes in mind. And using a mailchimp API is a different thing altogether.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedSorry Meagan, we are not likely to take this on for the time being (if ever) - we feel that investing further resources into our built-in integrated emailing system makes more long-term sense.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedIan, thanks for posting, this is our thinking too.
As you have noticed, 4.2 update made a step in this direction with Email log and tracking. In my mind the next two most important things are:
1) Prebuilt nicely designed email templates
and
2) Handling of bounces
I would appreciate comments.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedHi Stan, thanks for bringing this up.
Frankly speaking, so far our thinking is to keep improving our built-in email functionality (e.g. see improvements we just published in 4.2 - https://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Email+log ) - rather than build the integration. In this way we are able to provide much better overall experience without having people to maintain and pay for two systems and jump between them. Also, the effort to build proper integration (also if we do it, we would have to include at least 2-3 systems) is pretty significant and for now we want to direct all resources to core product improvements.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedThanks Kenn,
I would appreciate feedback from other users regarding this kind of integration.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedThis is not currently possible but I moved this to the wishlist
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedOK, so just to reconfirm (we have thousands of organizations using Wild Apricot in very different ways so it is not a good idea for us to assume too much):
What you would like to see is ability to set 'join policy' for each group separately. So that some groups will be shown on the new member application form and anyone can join - while others are maintained only by the site administrators.
Please confirm/comments and I will rename ths thread and move to the wishlist.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedOK, can you elaborate what would you see as the ideal solution to this situation?
I would love to hear what other people think too.
Personally I think your post title is overdramatic :-)

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedTim,
Unfortunately, this is still on our wishlist as we have quite a few requests already on our roadmap so I can not provide any timeframe yet.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedTim, I think your need is pretty much the same as raised earlier in another thread so I will merge it.
Re manual editing - I agree, this is crazy so I would not really consider this a feasible workaround, I consider that we do not have this capability at the moment.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedFYI - this is also relevant within a context of managing multiple chapters/subgroups within a single Wild Apricot account, see Scenario 1 described in http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308929-general-discussion-and-questions/suggestions/8822125-functionality-for-multi-chapter-organizations
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedWe do have now ability to have administrators limited to specific web pages
Let's focus this thread on group manager role for membership records management as I think this applies to many organization - for example for multi-chapter organizations with chapter managers responsible for some subset of records.
So I am envisioning a new admin role "Limited membership manager" who would be limited to viewing/editing only records from selected group(s).
Though this is a big undertaking - we have to analyze all aspects of admin interface in this regard.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commented@marupert - I would appreciate more details - what capabilities would you like to have for Group Manager?
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedWe do not have this - I will move this thread to the wishlist.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedThere has been no progress on this. We will post here once it's allocated into a release - there is no current plan for this yet.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedI have come across other requests where people need to constrain fields in a similar fashion. So it sounds like the best solution would be to have an option on text fields like "Limit to [ ] characters"
Would love to see votes and comments on this thread.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedWe do not have functionality like this built-in, sorry.

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedOK, but what was the particular situation when they needed it?
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedSorry about the UI - might be a bit misleading. <No date> means that date to match to has not been defined, it does not mean date=empty
At the moment there is no way to do advanced search for records with empty login date.
An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedInteresting point.
Has anyone else come across other situations when NOT would be useful?

An error occurred while saving the comment Dmitry Buterin commentedInteresting point, this has not come up before - I am guessing that few people have that many events.
I would be very interested to hear what others have to say.
You can use tags to create multiple event lists - but this will not help in event administration.
http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Event+categories+%28tags%2C+labels%29
Can you tell us - why do you want to hide it?
