Allow secondary/alternate emails for members
Current features:
Each contact/member (company or individual) can only have one email that is used to receive messages.
Desired features:
Allow contacts/member to have multiple emails that can be used to receive emails.
Sorry for the late update.
The first step was finished and emails can now be carbon copied to contact’s alternative emails. To do so the contact fields which store the alternative emails must be explicitly marked on the email setting page.
Unsubscribing will unsubscribe all alternative emails simultaneously because they all belong to the very same account. The person clicking “unsubscribe” is warned about this on the unsubscribe page.
For now we paused the development of this feature. but not for good. :) So I’m changing this wish status back to “collecting comments”.
Thank you everyone for a valuable feedback.

Hi, Will this proposed design allow 2 members to have the same primary email address ?
We have junior members who have no email address so their primary email address needs to be their adult carer's one but WA will not let us do that today . As a result we can not benefit from the automatic renewal process in WA today for those junior members.
Looking forward to having this feature implemented :-) -

We also need this as membership is by family and spouses often need separate emails.

ability to add a second email OR be able to display a "main" company email, but be able to send group email to a different email. Some larger, more secure companies bounce the group emails for security and only option is to have a duplicate contact with different email and the contact list does not like that at all.

Katya, yes, my club needs the ability to turn emails on and off for each of the two email addresses, independently.
But my suggested design gives even more control than that.
And since it is an extension of an existing setting, it will be familiar to users.
In our case, we need to create a second member just to have the additional email address. If you implement my design, we could export the existing preferences for the second member, tweak the spreadsheet, and import the preferences back as the preferences for the second email address.

May 2011 and still nothing???
My members are really asking for this--getting an email blast to there member record with more than one email address. I have added an alternate email address field--but I can' not find a way to use it for email blasts. When you implement this, I would suggest up to 4 alternate email address per contact. Thank you.

Allow members to submit more than one email address per member/contact. Currently we have it configured that more than one email address can be listed on the profile, however, when it comes to blast emails, the blast only goes to one email address per member. Situation: one family, but multiple email addresses in that family that want to receive notifications.

This is very important to our club. We currently have to work around it by maintaining separate contacts for the secondary emails, which is very time-consuming and error-prone. For us, this feature is certainly more important than rewriting the email editing process. Anything you can to to elevate the priority of this item would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sarah,
This is one of the out top priorities for this year. Unfortunately, I can't give you the exact date.
Also, could you share with us why you need this functionality, what is your own case? For example, do you need to send all emails to secondary email or not?Katya, Astra crew

Any update or ETA for this feature? We desperately need this functionality!

Okay. Homeowners association of 3,500 homes.
So once you create the ability for a secondary email and name, I really would need BOTH emails to be able to login to the record.
I'm not sure I see the downside.

Walt, Rachel, thanks for your input and sharing details.
Walt, as I understand, you need the ability to turn off receiving emails for one address and keep this for the second one at the same time. Current solution assumes automatic sending to both email addresses.
And your point about email settings in profile totally makes sense, thanks.

This is a critial element to our organisation as we have many organisations that require to receive correspondance simultaneously like invoices, account information, event e-mails, newsletter etc. Please make this function available.
For example if you could have a section that says e-mail correspondance and you can put in say 10 e-mails with the buttons or tick boxes that say accounts, newsletters, events or all and if ticketed and then they will automatically get what is ticket sent to them in relation to the category. Just a suggestion

Your design says this is intended to cover cases where two people, such as spouses, share a single membership.
That's our situation. However, in many of our memberships the primary member doesn't want to receive emails, and the secondary member does. Regardless of who gets emails, we want both the primary and secondary members' email addresses in our directory.
This design does not allow for that.
Here is my suggested addition to your proposed design:
Currently each member has the following email preferences on their profile's email settings tab:
Workflow emails
Event announcements
Email blastsI suggest that you add a fourth one - Subscriptions.
Then provide two columns of check boxes, one for the preferences for the primary email address (login) and one for the secondary email address. The secondary address itself would be a system field.
This separates the question of who is the login email from who gets which emails.
It also gives the member better control over email flow. For example, an executive may want to receive announcements and e-blasts, but want workflow emails to go only to his or her assistant. My proposal allows that control.

This is a critical element to the success of our programming as membership includes ALL staff from the businesses we sell to. Please support this change.

Sorry, we do not provide estimates.
Also unfortunately with the system of that scale (9000+ accounts, 6M+ contacts) there is not easy/simple change, everything requires thorough testing and resources. Our product roadmap is here http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Product+roadmap

This would seem to be a simple change and one that has been needed for a long time. What is the date for release?

We need to be able to CC a person's administrative assistant on anything that was sent to the member. It looks like the proposed design would fit this need.
