We are currently working on expanding groups functionality to control blog and forum priveleges and I want to share the progress with you.

This feature will be addressed in 5.2. release, currently planned for beginning of November 2014. Sorry, not for a while - our pipeline is full for 4.4 and for 5.0 already so I would guess the earliest is next year.

Any updates on where this might be on the current feature roadmap?

This is a big deal for being able to manage blog authors without having to create additional membership levels or give people access to the admin controls. Our group would really like to see this feature implemented. Thanks!

Ok, thanks - that makes a perfect sense so I added this into our product backlog. Unfortunately I cannot predict when we are going to implement - too many things to do for now (as always)

Correct, the blog I envision will be visible by the public. Only a small subset of our members will be able to post, probably all members can comment. It would not work for us to make a special membership level for this.

Let me clarify:
* The blog page itself may be visible to a wide range of visitors - so they can read the posts and/or comments. To limit page read access RAS (restricted access sections) can be used and they are sufficient for this purpose.
* But adding new posts and/or comments should be limited to only members in specific groups - and membership levels sometimes are not good for this.

Another yes here. I can't change people's membership type or make them admins to allow them to create blog posts.

This is feature would be very useful to us.

A big "Yes" vote from me. I would like to have our president and a staff person post to a read-only blog, but it's not practical to create a separate membership category just for posting to the blog.

For now I have to make them an Admin (which scares me since they are not technically inclined)

Yes! People tell me it's cumbersome to enter thru the admin log-in to post to the blog. Plus most people need training because they're less comfortable with technology in general.

Yes, this is very needed. It doesn't work to set up additional membership groups because you have to setup the payment methods, etc. We have two "levels" of membership, and then we have people who agree to help do the blogs. It would be a pain to have to set up two membership levels for each of the different blogs and put people back and forth in them...crazy! Groups is the most logical place to put the authorization for someone to do blog entries.

YES YES YES. Most of our members are on teams, each team will have a page and blog to share what they are doing with other teams. Each team would be in their own WA group.

Giving post permission at the group level would be awesome. Right now I have to manually assign admin priv. user by user and then they have to logout and log back in as admin to post. It's cumbersome.

We'd like to be able to designate post authorization for individual blogs by group instead of just by membership.

I like this option too. I could see how this may be useful to committe members who want to have a private communication forum just for themselves that isn't option to member but uses the blog functionality and methods instead of the forum methods and functionality. Nice idea that I could see is useful in many ways.

Creating a group of members that is authorized to create blog posts is more efficient than trying to create a membership level that gives everyone in that level the ability to make a post. I only have one level of membership and don't want to create a separate level just so they can be the only authorized users to make blog posts. You already have this functionality enabled for forums where you can designate groups to have access to certain forums. The same should apply to the blog module.

Yes, for now it is only done by level.
I would appreciate additional information - how would you use this for groups.
