Ability to select what page loads after members login [5764]
I have been trying to place the login box on my homepage using wildapricot widget code but thats impossible because members are taken straight to their profile page, which means I have to create an entire blank "login" page on my website and they must go to their profile page just to logout of my site.
Maybe after logging in the initial page that the login box is on would reload but next to the login box appears a "logged in" status change with a "my profile" text link and a "logout" text link would appear.
Released in 5.2

"Ability to select what page loads after members login" implemented in 5.2 release on December 10, 2014. See 5.2 release description http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Release+5.2 for details.

We are going to include this feature in the upcoming 5.2 release. And i am glad to present changes we have made.
We added the special settings page where admins can set up landing page for all members or special page for members from specific membership level.
Click the image below for a sneak preview of changes we are working on right now:

How can I make a page "the first available restricted page in site structure" ?
Currently I have several restricted pages and login is directing to the wrong one.

I prefer the option that the Admin chooses the specific page that you go to after login. Right now we are directed the the "first created" member only page, in our case this is the calendar. I would prefer our Events page which includes the Upcoming Events synopsis and news around town. At any rate, we would like to choose the page you go to upon member login.
Any timeframe for release?

I'm not enjoying the feature of displaying the "first available" member only page. I don't want to change our structure to redirect to a page that makes sense to them.
Is there really no way of controlling the redirect after login function?
Can I revert it back to staying on the same page they were?
-Eddie
PS I did read the earlier post of using the redirect on the URL but that would require to have a separate login page which is not ideal.

Hi Chad,
- Actually we didn't change redirect logic in v5, so all active members land to the first available (for them) restricted page in site structure. Probably some members do not have access to this page and thus redirects to home page.
- According redirect logic behavior, this feature in our Roadmap 2014 http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/8827717-roadmap-2015-plans-releases-expected-dates and i'm personally working now on it. Thanks for you detailed comment.
- Interesting thoughts about displaying content for certain levels. We were thinking about this option but it is not in our roadmap yet. Could i ask you create the separate wishlist thread about this feature. For collecting more comments and cases from others.
Thanks.

Has this behavior changed in v5? Our site was upgraded this weekend, and in testing, it appears that all users now land on the public home page, even after they're logged in.
Contrary to many of the requests in this thread, I enjoyed being able to leverage having different home pages for different membership levels -- some content really only applies to the public (non-members), and it was helpful having a page for members (by level) that summarized information most relevant to them (including membership "upgrade" options).
Being able to specify a home page as part of the membership level definition would be ideal.
In v5, the first thing I looked for was a membership-level aware content gadget; eg, only display the contained content for certain membership levels; but I'm sure that's further down on the roadmap.
Would you confirm that the v4 behavior of a member landing on their first restricted page has been removed in v5? If it hasn't, I'm probably just doing something improperly, such that that feature is no longer working for me.

It would be nice if you could change the page people go to when they first log in.
The first restricted access section page you create will act as the home page for your members. After they log in, this will be the first page they see.

There are a few workarounds you can try:
1) You can redirect this member landing page to any other page you want, see redirect page http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Redirecting+a+page . Note however the page will be redirected everytime, making it inaccessible to members i.e. It shows up in the menu, but always redirects when you try to access it. Be sure to transfer the contents of the page (if any) somewhere else, and then hide the page altogether if you want, see hiding menus http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Page+access+and+visibility#Pageaccessandvisibility-Hidingpagesfromthemenu .
Alternatively you can keep the page menu item visible (especially if it has sub-pages), but make the page non-clickable, see making menu item not clickable http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Making+menu+items+not+clickable .
2) Option 2 is to hide the login box http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308926-for-designers-and-developers/suggestions/8821309-hide-login-box , and then use your own custom login link with a return url - this custom login link can be added anywhere you want on the site.
The general login link looks like this: http://yoursite.com/Sys/Login (replace http://yoursite.com with your actual Wild Apricot site address). For users to be redirected somewhere else just add ?ReturnUrl=return url here at the end of the login link above. The return url for the home page is /, for the profile it is /Content/Members/MemberProfile.aspx , or you can create a custom url http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Custom+URLs .
e.g. To redirect to the home page the login link becomes: http://yoursite.com/Sys/Login?ReturnUrl=/
To redirect to the profile use: http://yoursite.com/Sys/Login?ReturnUrl=/Content/Members/MemberProfile.aspx
and so forth.
3) A third option is a variation of option 1 above, more elegant, but for very advanced users only. Here you modify the redirect script to only run if the member arrived via logging in, but do nothing if the member was already logged in. This may involve setting browser cookies etc, contact one of our partners http://www.wildapricot.com/partners if you need assistance with this.

I know that I'm jumping in late on this one, but I just started using the software. Has anyone found a workaround for this one? My restricted access area is my forums page, so it kind of leaves loged-in users in limbo. Taking them back to their profile or the home page would be much better.
Any updates??
Thanks so much.

I'm having the same problem--we have a restricted access page that doesn't make sense as a "landing" page, and I'd love to be able to specify a different landing page. Is this scheduled for a release yet?

Dmitry,
Thanks for the response.
WRT signed in members being taken to the forum page, that's because it is the only members-only section we currently have so it is functioning as currently designed.

Ian,
I can't say anything about the timeframe until this has been scheduled into a particular release - but this is indeed requested frequently so we are keeping it in front of us during all planning sessions. It has already been designed so now it's a question of development only - though a significant chunk of work.
BTW, can you recheck about the forum page? Members should be taken to the members-only section page, that's the current design. If this is not the case, please contact support.

For most of our members, the main reason they login is to book events. Currently they are taken to the Forum page which is illogical 99% of the time.
Any idea of a timeframe for something being done here?, this request has been around a long time, on the wishlist, on the roadmap and then on the wishlist again. Now that the roadmap has gone.......?
Regards,
Ian

I'd like to be able to select what page our members land on after log in. For us it would be best if they landed on the home page. The events list is something they use oftnr and taking them to the home page where all events are listed would be a good thing. Think I'd be OK with this being a universal setting for all members after log in.

Here's what would work for us:
* Full admin only.* Ability to choose redirect after login page
We personally would like redirect to be back to the Home page, but realize this could be different for everyone.[/quote]
Agree with this 100%. I'd rather than the option to choose.

What we really don't like is
* Admin logs in as member and goes to the HOME page.
* Member logs in as member and goes to the MEMBERS page.No matter what the choice, Admins need to see what members are seeing - how else can we design an effective site?
