We are adding sorting functionality to forum topics in scope of 5.2. release and I want to share the progress with you.

Is there a way to do this. Member complaints are having to go to last post which can be many many pages and threading from topics can be very functional.

I found this addressed before and wonder if this is viable or is it tossed? Here is post:

I agree that this is a MUCH NEEDED feature. And here is the funny part... scroll to the top of this thread and you can EASILY sort ascending or descending. ;-)

I vote that it is time for WA to rip out the old, outdated, and inflexible system and use something that provides - what would appear to be - such simple functionality. Or at the very least, WA should leverage their membership to demand the third-party provider add this.

Gloria - this is not a small change because we currently use tree-like view for comments to show the discussion thread and simply reversing the sort order would make this undecipherable (which comment correlates to which reply)

I agree that this is a big issue and Wild Apricot should be able to easily make this change. The Forum should have the newest posts first, not the oldest ones first.

I think this is a big issue. it is irritating to have to go to the last page to see comments.

Our own forum is entirely different piece of third-party software (with a license cost from $20,000) so unfortunately we can not incorporate anything from it.

I am using Wild Apricot to build a site for an entire hobby community. Having the comments go from oldest to newest is just not workable for the volume of comments expected on this site.

Your own forum has the option. Why not just incorporate something that you already have and help all of us very quickly???

Unfortunately, this option is not available as yet.

Is there a way to set the default sort order to reverse chronological (i.e., most recent first) instead of straight chronological? It seems illogical to have straight chrono and force users to go to the last page to see the most recent postings. Thanks.

I'd love to see a button that would show you the most recent posts since the last time you visited the forum. Currently, there's no way to tell what topics have been posted to since the last visit except by remembering. It involves clicking through each one, which is time-consuming and not user friendly.

Interesting idea, I would love to hear comments from others here.

Instead of reordering, could you have a button that would allow you to leap to the newest comment on a thread?

We are analyzing this, the issue is that we current display comments in a hierarchical tree view, e.g.:
John says...

Scott replied to John

So we can not simply change the sorting order as it would not work with the hierarchical view. So we are trying to come up with the best compromise. Any ideas are welcome.
