Text (SMS) communications with attendees, members, etc.
I did not see this on the wishlist in the list of 339, unless i missed it :).
SMS (text) notication option would be great to have as alot of our members use texting on their phones. Email works good too but push text woould be great to have as an option for communication. Thanks.
Text messaging service is available in the Communication center for US and Canadian customers.

You may use www.redoxygen.com for integration with the software. They have different APIs which can be integrated with any software application. Moreover they have different apps and addins. The best thing is they do not charge anything for their software, only cost of the SMS.

I agree with the text option. We have a lot of parents with young ones who don't go in and check their email so any last minute changes (like if we need to cancel a class or workshop) get missed if they don't get a text. Showing up for a cancelled class = angry parent. Texting is huge.

Our members prefer text communications. Some do not read the emails because they only view text messages as relevant. Texting would help us strengthen member communications. Thanks.

A messaging function in the app would be the best way to solve this issue, with the option to create groups that members can opt in/out of.
Basically it would be a mobile forum, no one in our organisation uses the online forums as everyone communicates using WhatsApp, this causes problems in keeping contact lists unto date. -

123456@pcs.rogers.com as an example, also works in Canada. However not all mobile carriers provide this function. My cell provider (while being a subsidiary of Rogers and using their network) does not offer this.
In addition for this to work, as well as knowing the member's mobile number, you also need to know their carrier. And good luck with them updating that info when they port to another mobile carrier.
My recommended solution for this as mentioned earlier is to set up an account with Message Bird and then the message gets sent to 12345@sms.messagebird.com. Message Bird is carrier agnostic.
Of course the next challenge now is do you want to send ALL emails as text messages? If you do - great - change the members email address to their phone number. But most probably you do not - so then you add an SMS address field to each member record and when you want to send an SMS message - add that field as an additional field. Send your message - wait for all messages to be delivered - then turn off the additional field again. Challenge with this of course is that there is no logging of what messages were sent to any additional addresses.

In the US, we can send email as a text message.
Compose a new email and enter the recipient's 10-digit wireless number, followed by @txt.att.net. For example, 5551234567@txt.att.net. I think this feature is available on all telephone carriers.
As long as WA recognizes this and allows a functionality to send as email-to-text message using this format, this can be implemented very easily.

Text message reminders and notifications would be incredibly valuable to our membership. Emails often don't get delivered to many of our members for a variety of reasons, and they then complain about the lack of communication. Text messaging is a necessary feature in the modern day. (NOT app notifications. We have many older members who still use conventional cell phones, not smartphones.)

Is there a way to send messages or emails via SMS/text messages?

This would be a great feature. When someone signs up for an event, they should be able to opt into text message notifications. If there’s a last minute change in venue, parking, weather cancellations or any other unplanned happening, it can make the difference in controlled chaos or disaster. Sure, we can buy an external service then figure out how to get the info over, then manage all the changes, but it would be so much better to offer this as an additional service. Please reconsider.

I think there are lots of service providers that can be used, instead of embedding this feature within Wild Apricot.

Ability to send SNS messages to members, for example brief event reminders or last minute changes to venues, etc

Possible simple method of doing this would be to to route the SMS through a service such as Message Bird. Message Bird as well as providing a web based interface also supports the sending of an email to 14161231234@sms.messagebird.com or group@sms.messagebird.com
Yes, you would have to have a Message Bird account - but cost of messages - per 160 characters is about $0.01

This is a must-have. For events and also for membership renewals. Unfortunately when emails bounce or get filtered to spam, members don't receive notifications. This would be a great alternative to make sure all communications are going through.

Organizations with large groups will benefit from this service as reminders or last minute changes can be sent quickly...and be seen. While many users have emails on their phones, they may not check it in a timely manner if something urgent comes up that they should be notified about. Most major competitors offer this feature. WA by not adding this will begin to lose members to these competitors. WA has many great features, however this one missing feature will eventually lead to members leaving.
ADD SMS SOON PLEASE. -

So, when we decided to use Wild Apricot about a year ago, we were told that sms was a feature that would be coming soon. Is it? Our members, are complaining more and more that we don’t sent our messages via text. Can you give us an update?

I was approached by a competitor, and when checking out their features they had smart text messaging. I urge Wild Apricot not to lag behind in features

I am so disappointed to learn the plans for SMS have been scraped. We were looking quite forward to implementing this with our membership.

Email is a great second option to the more immediate solution of texting. A push text option where membership rosters can be notified is a valuable asset when supporting neighborhood watch, event reminders, or emergency alerts. Errors and omissions can be reduced adding efficiency and accuracy to member services. Email is a lot more clumsy and spotty for the receiver adding delays to urgent matters. Eliminating multiple platforms is the philosophy that attracted me to Wild Apricot as a membership manager. The lack of this option may cause me to look for other software options. Every organization wants to be where members are located and SMS is the place.
