I just had one of our committee chairs ask about this. We don't need or want more than the 5 full admins our subscription allows us, but we have about a dozen committee chairs or designates that we'd like to be able to provide the ability to contact other members. Some kind of limited admin ability that provides them with access to the email system. Alternatively, the ability to create a list of members and assign an email address alias to the list, which we can put into the directory, etc.

Member-to-member e-mail, groups, etc.

Electric Embers (http://electricembers.coop) provides a service that solves this problem. They have a Groups feature that allows a group of members to mail each other, a group leader to e-mail the group members, etc. Very versatile.

They also have e-mail serves. The price is extremely reasonable and the staff who provide help are extremely good in terms of responsiveness, demeanor and problem solving. It's a nice add-on service for a Wild Apricot site.

For now, we simply count how many people commented in a specific wishlist thread. The more authors a thread has, they higher is its priority.

This is looking like a deal breaker for us too. We need email lists with moderation.

We use a listserv with three lists - full membership, board and board plus administrators.

The WA email feature can't be enabled separately from certain admin privileges. And we want any member to be able to email the club, but most of them have to be moderated.

We could use group-restricted forums for the board and board+admin list. But WA doesn't let the admin subscribe new board members to the forum so they get email notifications; we have to tell each of them to do that themselves.

Interesting that a module that was supposedly being worked on, in 2008 with implementation in Q2 is STILL a wish list item. One reason I recommended WA to our club was that it appeared that member to member messages were going to be a feature offered, and it would reduce by a huge amount, the time and resources needed to host and manage our email list.

I do not know how you conduct voting for features desired, as an administrator I have never received a poll of features we want, and if I did, member to member messaging would be a MAJOR item.

I think that you will find that a query to your customers about how many could or would use member to member messaging will result in a larger response than you realize.

DJYoung describes my situation also. Manually maintaining email lists.

I allow only board members to send email blasts to the entire membership. I control this by black/white lists in my mail provider application. To further complicate, without periododic matching, I cannot determine when a member changes an email address; there is no log/audit function to look only for changes to a member profile, so, I play the spreadsheet vlookup game.

The ideal for me is for WildApricot to act as a email forwarding agent, where I can set up distribution lists (All Members, Members of a certain level, etc.) and be able to send a mass email to the list for re-distribution, with appropriate security permission controls.

If such a function existed within WildApricot, I may also be able to cancel my web hosting service, which I only use for email management, and save the club some money.

I have a similar request. I would like certain users (for example administrators or board members) to be able to send an email blast to all members from outside Wild Apricot. In this way the message could be composed in the sender's usual email application, without them having to log into Wild Apricot. To deliver the email blast, the sender would then simply send the message to a specific email address that forwards the message to all members. Similar to the 'Yahoo groups' style functionailty described above.

Does that make sense?

At the moment I have to manually copy member email addresses from the Wild Apricot database into our email list, which is a real pain.

Hi, wondering if this is an option. We currently use Yahoo Groups as well. A member can send an email to our yahoogroups email address (aka_teo@yahoogroups.com ), and the message (and attachment if applicable) is routed to all members. We use it to communicate with each other as a group. Each year at renewal time, I have to update the WA Membership Database and the Yahoo Groups Membership Database. It would be great if I only had to update one database, my WA database. So, perhaps an email address could be assigned for each WA account to use for this purpose.

Thanks for your comments, Nick, but you'll have to make your decision on what Wild Apricot currently does, not what it may suggest in future. We cannot promise any timeline for any new feature, it depends on too many conditions and missed our plans many times, so you cannot rely on that in your decision making.

Yes, this would b e a good feature. Our club currently uses Google Groups to send event information to members who opted in. There has been some misuse of the Google Groups mail by past members who were given access and one general security breach that was promptly fixed.

Our use would be for smaller events without registration where we have a Word Press calendar on a different server visible on a WA page in an iframe. There can be about 400 such events a year so we made it easier to setup an event compared to the WA Event. In our case we have about 50 group leaders who send a short message to about 60% of our members.

We also use the WA events for larger events with registration.

Ideally the feature should be available only to members authorized in a select group. WA group participation could be used as the mode for authorization.

We presently use Yahoo groups, and are trying WA on the 30 day trial. the deal breaker here maybe the lack of an email list server. At present, any member can send an email to the yahoo group address and it is sent to every member who has signed up to receive emails. members can receive the emails from the club as they are sent, or as a daily digest. This is the main reason we have the yahoo group.

We are all volunteers, and wanted to simplify the membership management, and WA meets our needs, except for the email.

The Board will decide in a few days, If WA is considering this feature, it would make our decision easier.

I would like to see this feature as well. Here is an example I envision: when joining, a member specifies they are interested in being kept informed for things going on in Neighborhood A and Neighborhood D (the neighborhoods were set up as Groups within Wild Apricot). Each member within a neighborhood group would have the ability to send a message to the other members of the group.

Can you please provide more details? For example, how would it work in your particular organization. This would help us in our analysis.

Allow members to send email to each other and/or entire the membership, but give administrators options to control emails.

I would prefer a list serve solution.
