Selective 'Include name in list of event attendees' by default [11717]
We use WA for our club members to register for our weekly meetings. I occasionally hear complaints about how many clicks it takes to register. One member asked if I could make the checkbox that says "Include name in list of event attendees" default to selected. I told him the software does not allow me to do that.
How about in the Event Details page if there were a way to indicate whether the checkbox for "Include name in list of event attendees" would default to selected or not.
Thanks, Mark
UPDATE FROM KERNEL APRICOT (JUL 2013): while the question is being analysed / discussed (and this can take a lot of time), I suggest using thus JS script workaround http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308920-archive/suggestions/8834812-set-attendee-list-opt-in-to-yes-by-default (the script will change the checkbox into selected state be default)

We too would prefer the default "On", but any improvement would be appreciated!

This is a very good idea! We can convert this checkbox into two radio options like
() show my name
() hide my nameand make them mandatory to select (labels to be refined).
I'll pass this idea to my team.

Moving the checkbox to the top would be an improvement, since they miss it at the bottom.
Better yet, why not make the box a forced choice question with a mandatory response required? This way we would all be absolutely sure they read it and made a choice. This would be even better than a default option.
We only display the names to logged in members, so it would be good if that was indicated when they make the choice. In our club, most of us don't want this to be available to the general public, but want our other members to know.
I'm still not sure the script to make it default works --- OR people still don't understand what that box means. I am using the global java script provided by WA, but still get some Anonymous registerees --- when I ask them, they don't know what I'm talking about, and want their name displayed. So perhaps the default on option (if it works the same as the script) is not the best answer anyway.

We are still not sure about making the checkbox selected by default. This compromise user privacy - a person has to consciously accept that he is willing to show his personal information to other people.
What about simply moving the checkbox to the top of the form and somehow visually separate it form other form inputs?

You can achieve the very same right now if you use this script on your site: http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308920-archive/suggestions/8834812-set-attendee-list-opt-in-to-yes-by-default

I can't tell you how ecstatic our club would be if you made this one little fix!!! We couldn't get this soon enough! Thank you for giving us this hope!!!

We are thing to make it very simple and just make this checkbox "ON" by default - so that any attendee has to check it off if he does not want to publish his name in the list.

We would like to have the ability to set the default to on or off.

Having ADMIN ability to set the default would be most helpful.

We would also like to have the default set to on. Our users dont have privacy concerns. They just forget to click the box.

Our group has also expressed overwhelmingly that they would prefer the default setting be set to display attendees' names on the list. Often, they don't notice the check box at the bottom of the registration form and just forget to click it.
If the event administrator could have the option of setting the default to have it checked "show attendees on list" when she's creating the event that would be ideal. You could still have that check box listed on the registration form so that registrants could uncheck it if they didn't want to be shown on the list.

I like the idea of having a choice by event of whether the default is to "include name in list of event attendees" or not to include it. On our site, we have two pages for events - one that is visible to the public and one that is visible to members only. The events that go to the public page have one tag and the events for members only uses another tag. For privacy purposes, I like the idea of someone registering for a public event having to choose to show her name. For the members only events, I like having the default be to show the name, since our members are used to the way Evites work and like to see who is coming. So if each event could be marked by the event administrator to be default to show or default to not show, that would work great.

The custom script still isn't functioning properly. I spend way too much time going in to edit them, since our members want to be displayed on the attendee list, and don't know why they are appearing as anonymous.

Is this something we could use as well? I am here because I would like to make my event list shown by default.
I suppose the ultimate solution would be for this to be a function of the user profile (for members that have a profile).

Prior to the 4.0 upgrade, there was some custom code that was developed to enable us to make the default on for display names in attendee list for on line registration.
Now that code is no longer working in the new upgrade, so I am back to monitoring/editing and correcting numerous registration records since our members wish to see who else is attending events.
We restrict the ability to review the list to members only, which I think provides them with a general level of privacy (it's not visible to the public).
At least when we had the custom code in, it makes it a lot easier to determine if anyone is actually opting out (since by far the vast majority want to opt in, but just miss it), and now we may be overriding that for the few that don't want to appear.
Can we prioritize a fix for the custom code for those of us that desperately want/need it now? I know there were no guarantees that it would be supported in future upgrades, but I think a lot of us out here really liked having it!!!

As you can imagine, we want to be very careful about privacy and if we reverse this, the potential downside (someone gets listed who did not intend to and flips out!) is significant.
Any suggestions on how we can make this more obvious during registration?
