Moving and Merging Forum Posts [6464]
To moderate our forums we'd like to take new topics that are really comments to existing topics and move them from being a unique topic to a comment of an existing topic. We'd like to retain the original poster information in the move. Is this possible in the existing forum structure? If not, is this an administrative feature you would consider adding to the service?

Moving and merging posts is important to us as well as being able to close a thread for further comments.

Not being able to move, merge, and split forum threads is becoming more frustrating. I have another member who added a comment to a topic when they should have created a new topic. I have no way to fix it so I email the members and ask them to fix it but so far they haven't.

This is the primary reason we don't currently use the WA forums. I would love to see these features added.

Yes - I would definitely use this feature. Would also want to be able to move a topic from one forum to another.

I realize there are many subjects being reviewed; but, it is hard to imagine that only two of us see value in this particular topic.
We use forums and blogs as primary informational (current news) and communication mode among members.
We currently have no way to manage all that without the capability originally suggested. We need to be able to “juggle” posts.
I would hope more users would see the value of this.
Thanks!

I too would find this function useful. Just today a member put a topic in the wrong forum and I was trying to figure out a way to move it.

Yes, Yes, Yes to all you described. We are having significant issue managing forums without the capability you describe.
Although a separate, but related, issue, please consider providing the ability to “archive” news blogs. Because of historical needs we need the ability to move current, out-of-date news stories to an archive blog that can be included on a separate web page. Unless I have missed something that currently cannot be accomplished. Thanks!

Currently:
When a forum is created, all topics and replies cannot be moved from forum to forum. From time to time a topic might be posted in one forum which might be might appropriate in another forum. As well, forums might also be redundant and should be consolidated, or a post may spawn a whole new conversation.Desired:
1) The ability to move a topic and its replies from one forum to another. This would send an email to all people who have posted in it that the topic has been moved, and possibly leave a note in the forum that the topic has moved.2) The ability to join threads. This would moves all the topics and replies from one forum into another one. It would then delete the existing forum or close one forum and leave a not there informing people of the move.
3) Split a thread at a certain point so that the post becomes a new thread.

We are hearing you guys and appreciate the feedback and input. We are increasing the priority of forum enhancements in our pipeline. This is still some time away- thanks for your patience.

I agree, being able to move topics between forums, and to generally manage topics / comments etc in their entirety would be really valuable to us...

I would welcome this feature too! At the moment, I have to ask members to re-post in a different thread which is far from ideal!!!

This would be fantastic. At the moment our moderators will only have an iron first: They can delete or edit a comment. Having more moderator abilities is very important to what we want the forums to be and being able to move a thread is a vital aspect of that.

I agree -- valuable, but not as high priority as some other things.

I like this idea. The admin might like to move a persons comment to another category or forum area. WA staff do it all the time :) It would be something that I could see as valuable, but not a high priority.

This is not possible now but sounds like a good idea.
I would appreciate comments from others on this.
