We would like to incent our members to renew as soon as possible by offering a discount coupon. However, the coupon feature is ONLY available to NEW members. Definitely NOT good way to treat long-standing members, and no way to incent the desired behaviour without creating a whole new list of membership prices - and that's a LOT of work!

I just realized that discount codes cannot be used for renewals. This is a big problem for us too - most of our members who would use these discounts are renewing members, not new members.

Along with discount codes for event registrations, PLEASE make this a high priority! The work-arounds are time-consuming for me and confusing for my members.

Thanks for the workaround, but with a whole class of membership eligible for a discount it would take us more time to apply individual over-payments than we have saved by switching to Wild Apricot.

From the user perspective the easiest way to implement this is to add a place to put in a coupon code at renewal just as you do with an application.

A refinement (but not essential for our situation) would be to be able to specify on a coupon if it is available for application, renewal, or both.

Maybe the first step could be implemented soon to help the many who are clearly struggling with this, and the refinement could wait for more programming time to be available. Certainly, if we have to keep our current work-around (which is to create three or four more membership levels) we would have to find another membership system - it is confusing our members too much!

Probably you can use workaround for now: instead of coupons you can add a payment record for appropriate member (kind of credit payment) with a special tender type (i.e. discount). When member is logged in he can see this over-payment (credit) in his balance and he can initiate renewal and close the invoice with this payment.

I'm hoping to rejuvenate this thread since I see the last post was in March 2011 and there is still no ability to apply membership discounts to renewals. As I explained in a support ticket our watercolor society has a policy where people who agree to coordinate a member exhibit get free renewal. SOme other volunteer activities are also rewarded with membership discounts so the volunteer pays a reduced renewal rate the next year. I was hoping to use the membership discount coupon during renewal to give the appropriate people a coupon code to enter. I was terribly disappointed we could not automate this process and will have to enter manual Special Discount tenders amounts to record their discounted renewal.

What a disappointment! When I saw that WA had added application discount coupons, I just assumed that they would work for both new and renewing applications.

I spent the last hour trying to figure out why my coupon wasn't working and finally checked this forum to discover that they only work for new applications.

I am sure there was a reason to limit coupons to new applications, but it's frustrating to have to work around this limitation.

Larry, it is in our plans to implement system-wide discount coupons - though several other pieces have to be put in place first.

This does not look like it has been addressed, so I am going to bump it back to the top.

I would also like to be able to apply a discount code anywhere there is a financial transaction. Specifically in our case, we are offering a discounted renewal rate to certain existing members. I've searched the forum and unless I've missed it, I do not see how we are able to set it up so that when an existing member renews they can be offered the discounted rate if they qualify for it.

Our organization gives a gift of discounted membership to presenters, but they can only use the coupon if they are a new member because the renewal form does not include the discount coupon code entry box. Please allow the use of discount coupons for both new members and renewals.
