Allow discounts for membership renewals
We'd like ot offer discounts at renewal time. We are not set up on automatic renewals. We did set up discount codes.
Is this feature available? I can't find the topic in the help files and when I process a renewal I don't see a field for discounts anywhere in the renewal process or the shopping cart during checkout.
Released in version 5.11: https://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Release+5.11
Discounts can now be applied to membership renewals and member level changes, as well as new membership applications.

This is ridiculous - how are we to offer incentives for lapsed members to renew?! And people have been asking for it for more than 5 years? What is the status?

JoelB: thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, we cannot promise particular date with any of wishlist requests

We assumed that discounts could be applied to membership renewals – why wouldn’t they? We pay a great deal of money for Wild Apricot, which is generally wonderful. Please update it so we can apply discounts to renewals and let me know when that feature is available. We had planned to use it for our Q1 membership drive, but aren’t able to go forward with our plans because of this problem.

How disappointing that this feature is not available! We want to offer "early bird" discounts for our members. However, because we are a non-profit, some members may wish to pay the full price to support the organization. Thus, it is more appropriate to offer a coupon code (which we already set up) for members to enter in their renewal process if they wish to.
There is a Wild Apricot Membership Academy article on Incentives & Discounts even quotes a study that showed "Associations that offer an early renewal discount were more likely to see an increase in renewal rates over the past year." And the last line of the article states "For example, in Wild Apricot’s Membership Management software, you can add additional member levels and/or offer discount coupons for early renewal." However, this is not true! (http://www.wildapricot.com/articles/mrg-incentives-discounts)
I am quite frustrated that we are unable to use coupons. Setting up discounted membership levels is a ridiculous work around that requires a lot of back end work and updates later to show that they are in the same membership category as the full rate people, especially since we offer 3 membership levels that now will have to be expanded to 6 levels. How frustrating and inefficient!!!

WA,
A possible quick fix...
Can you change the code that tells people "you are already a member... edit your member profile" when logged in members click on a membership application page???
I was able to add a second membership application page with restricted access for active members but with discounted prices. I would like to point active members to this page for renewals in my renewal e-mails so they can log in and see the discounted prices and select the level of membership they want.
The problem is when members are logged in, they get the "You are already a member. Edit your member profile" message instead of seeing the membership application page. My renewal emails will tell members they get discounts if they renew prior to their subscription expiring.
Issue: Would renewing this way be based off the date their membership laspes or the new application date?
Credit function not a good option: I have played around with the credit account function, but besides being labor intensive it gives members a constant message at the bottom of the screen that could be confusing and is annoying.
I can not think of a more important issue to resolve than one that helps retain membership!

Also need to integrate referral discounts capability just like Wild Apricot uses. If WA thinks it is good for themselves, they need to integrate for us. I want my members to get a 15% discount for each referral, but I also want them to have their own discount code to pass to their referral so the referral gets the same 15% discount and is encouraged to use the code.

I was totally shocked when I found out this feature did not exist. How elementary to have such a option, especially when an organization has the challenge of retaining membership. I was even told this feature existed when we were doing the 30 day trial period but now that we have signed up, I find out that it is not. I have a board of directors that are not happy right now with the software management.

I too vote for this feature and have the same situation as Jennifer N. Brown of running renewal campaigns for lapsed members with autorenew.

In the Membership Field section, you have the ability to add additional charges during initial membership. It would be nice if WA could modify that feature to add OR reduce charges during the initial and renewal process if certain options are chosen. Thanks!

Please make this feature available for renewals... All the hand editing of invoice is a significant hassle for both our administrators and our members!!

I searched your Product Roadmap page and the only thing I found concerning discounts was an entry for "Uniform approach to discounts across all transactions" whose status is "Analysis queue" & which links back to a forum titled "Dicount coupons for event registrations". That forum really has nothing to do with this forum. So for your comment from 2014 to say that "It is already in our Roadmap, we will be working on it next year (if nothing changes)." would be a bit misleading to me.So for assumption sake I will assume that this Roadmap Item is the one you are referring to.
I would also like the ability to discount the price of membership renewals, but I don't believe that adding that ability as a discount coupon is the correct way to go. It seems to me that you have all the data and programming code you need in the Members>Levels function and that it would be much easier/quicker to leverage this code/data you already have. When you are creating your membership levels you insert the price in the General tab, then you go to the Renewal Policy tab to setup whatever renewal policy you have for that level of membership. Why not simply add a discount field there which would allow the admin to discount the membership level price by a specific dollar amount?
When a member renews you already have checks in place to check to see what membership level they are, what the renewal policy is and what the price is for that level. Wouldn't it be much easier to add another check to see if there is a dollar amount in a renewal discount field??
You could then fast track this upgrade and give your client's/customers what they need to make their members happy.

Couldn't agree more - is it listed in the roadmap for 2015? Please say yes

I agree. I set up discount codes only to discover after the fact that they do not work on renewals and they cannot be set up if you allow automatic renewals. This needs to change. Want to have an incentive for lapsed donors to come back but if it is a headache or they have to call me so I can credit their account (which I have done on some where I discovered by watching over their shoulder that the discount code box does not appear except on new member applications). PLEASE make it possible to use a discount code on renewals AND on automatic renewals (with a one time code to start perhaps?).

Different issues are important for different people and we cannot do them all at the same time. We slowly going through our roadmap - see http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/8827717-roadmap-2015-plans-releases-expected-dates

Why was this not corrected during your recent upgrade? User community has been begging for this to be addressed since early 2010??? We like your product because it is a tool for efficient back-office management. Lacking the ability to offer coupons to renewing members is like going back to a paper ledger to have to trace credits and debits. Please help.

I hear you, but for this year the stack is full already - see http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/8827717-roadmap-2015-plans-releases-expected-dates
It is already in our Roadmap, we will be working on it next year (if nothing changes).

Please bump this up the priority list. It is a fundamental part of memberships and, for us, a highly effective method of encouraging early renewals,
Thanks, Scott

This thread has been going on for 3 1/2 years with no action!
As a provider of implementation services for Wild Apricot users, I am finding discounts on renewals to be an increasingly important way to maintain membership levels.
How about giving us a detailed explanation of why this still hasn't been implemented after such a long time in the queue.
Thanks.
