Discount coupons for recurring payments
I would like to see coupons that place a permanent discount on a recurring payment membership price.
To be clear, I am not asking for a coupon that will only affect the cost of a recurring payment for a limited time. For example, normal price is $5.00 recurring monthly, but with coupon code the cost will be $4.00 recurring monthly for the duration of the membership.
Coupon codes are a huge marketing tool and should be available also for a recurring payment only business like ours.
Thank You

I turned it off because the AI support said the tokens would still be there if I turn off then turn on again after discount code period is over. This was false and I lost all my tokens and you could not restore them. That created havoc on the income for the organization.

Please bring this back! Discount codes on recurring memberships worked for previous member signups and was one of the reasons we chose WA. We offer a discount the first year of membership, then regular price. Codes will also help us track where members are coming from in order to help with our marketing efforts. Having a single-term (non-recurring) membership with a code and then needing to upsell and change the member into a different level will create higher churn rates and hurt overall membership. Please make this change!

I agree on this one: all of our members are categorized 'automatic renewal', and so for this one group of event-goers we wanted to offer a discount if they signed up as a member, yet currently that would entail creating an entire new level of members unfortunately. Also, if I am not mistaken, I did not read in the instructions online, that the 'automatic renewal' would be an obstacle for activating the discount code. Only after setting up the discount code, I saw the textbox telling it is not possible on automatic renewal memberships. PS yes, we definitely will let our new-to-be members know that the discount is a one time deal and that their membership the following year will be automatically switched to the 'normal' settings and fees. But please dear Wild Apricot, it would be great if you could adjust this. Thanks so much.

We would like to be able to offer discount codes to both new members and renewing members, and just found out we can't do that with recurring memberships, which is extremely limiting as that is the only level we offer. I also think that the restrictions should be posted on the page where you create the discount codes as I set one up and let some people know about it before discovering we can't actually use it.

This is literally one of the most frustrating things about this system. I need to be able to offer marketing campaigns offering a temporary discount to a renewing membership - say get 40% off your first 3 months and go to the regular price thereafter WITHOUT having to do anything manually. Work smarter, not harder!
When I first started my site on this platform I offered my services for free and then had to go manually through over 200 members to add them to a different membership level to ensure they were going to pay, as per WA recommendations. Absolutely ridiculous. Especially as I went with Affinipay to more seamlessly integrate with WA. This was the payment processor they recommended, and that I thought would allow more flexibility with.
Will there ever be this functionality? Obviously it's been an issue for over 6 years, people need and want this feature.
Please solve this dilemma for us! -

Not being able to offer a discount against membership levels with recurring payments seems a little crazy - surely most people would want to use recurring payments if they are available, which renders the entire discount code feature moot.
I would like to see the option turned on if you have selected a payment provider that can support this functionality, i.e. Stripe - https://stripe.com/docs/billing/subscriptions/discounts

I'd like to be able to offer discount coupons even though all my membership plans are automatically recurring.

I agree I wanted to be able to offer, for example, get your first month for £5 then followed by recurring monthly payments of £24.99. I enquired about this & was told this was not possible & it was suggested to me that I use the discount code option. I looked but then saw that the discount code could not be used with recurring payments. Not much help to my initial query then is it!

unfortunate that coupons do not work with automatic recurring payments; understand that different payment vendors offer different challenges to implement but at least implement it in those providers that could allow it

It's not about monthly or annual - it's about recurring payments. Due to specifics of integration with some payment systems, we could not properly handle discounts initially (e.g. we were not able to charge a discount just for application and then do not charge it in consequent recurring charges), so we disabled it for recurring payments.
We will get to this some day.

Not monthly (they are allowed), only those with recurring payments active.
Almost all of our members with recurring payments are "monthly." Which is why our monthly levels aren't options... Is there an easy answer as to why monthly recurring-payment members can't use discounts?

This is what it says on the page: "Note: Discount coupons cannot be used with Membership levels that are free or that use Automatic recurring payments "

Ahh, good catch CGF. We do not have monthly memberships so I was not aware of that restriction.
I apologize for heading you in the wrong direction!

Actually, only members who pay yearly are eligible... monthly members and free members are not able to use coupon codes:

Currently as I understand it, coupon codes are only available to yearly member levels... is there a plan to have that available to all member levels (monthly, free)?[/quote]
CGF - If I understand your question correctly, you can already do what you are wanting. When you create your discount code there should be a 'By Level' checkbox. Click that and then you can add check marks to the membership levels that you want the discount applied to. Anyone outside of those levels checked will not be able to apply the discount.

It's because Wild Apricot can be used with several payment providers and some of them did not allow changing the amounts once the payment starts (e.g. initial payment and recurring payment have to be the same). I can't think of a workaround unfortunately.

I recently changed our memberships to recurring and now am disappointed that I can no longer offer discount coupons. This is a great promotion tool to acquire new members and to promote to a target group as well as to track the effectiveness of an advertisement.
Why is this feature incompatible with recurring payments and is there a work around?

We use the recurring option for several different membership levels. Coupons are a great way to give members incentive to upgrade or join.
I too would like to have the option to have the same discount apply to every month for the life of the membership. One thing we are attempting to do is create an incentive for someone to keep their recurring payments active every month. Once promotion we came up with is, as long as you keep automatically renewing you membership you save $ each month. Manually renewing you do not get the savings.
In addition it would be good to have 1st month at the discount and the remaining months at the regular price. This would be ideal to have a person join, 1st month for 1/2 price the remaining months at regular price.
If I had to choose one or the other I'd take the same discount every month since it could be a more flexible marketing tool.
Thanks
Yvonne

I would love to have the option for a coupon code for recurring memberships! Having the option of giving a first month free (first month 100% discount) or 10%off every month would be great. A coupon code is a tremendous marketing opporunity. Much of the professional marketing feedback that I am recieving is to offer the first month free as a great way to attract new customers.
