Control availability of member self-service renewal function [10549]
I recently had a Free Member on my website renew their membership to 2012. They simply kept pressing the renew until button in their Profile. I would like a limit put on this button (eg 1 x year).

Whoa, I had no idea someone could do that. That's a nighmare. I totally don't want that to happen. I think it is okay for someone to renew out maybe one year, but there definitely needs to be a control here. There really needs to be some kind of system function to specify when renewals are allowed and how far out in the future they can set up their renewal.

Our club events runs on a season with a lull after the last event of the season. During this time, we review the last year's finances and decide if we need to raise dues for the next year. We do not want people renewing before we get a chance to do this.
Once we have decided on the amount of dues, we would like to enable membership registration, similarly to event registration. We do not want to do this automatically based on the calendar year.

It sounds to me that most people would want members renewing a little bit in advance, not only after the renewal date. Let's see what others say.

Our financial year is June 1 to May 31 so ideally existing members would not be permitted to renew their dues until after June 1. For example, a member could not renew for the 2009-2010 year until after June 1, 2009.

I guess a possible solution would be to put some kind of restriction on when people can renew (e.g. Not earlier than XX days before the renewal date).
I am interested in feedback from others.
