Custom URLs for events
Would be great to have a way to make our own Custom URL for Blog posts, Events.
Right now i use bit.ly to make:
http://secondgearclub.camp9.org/allevents?eventId=159084&EventViewMode=EventDetails
into
http://bit.ly/may29-trail-clearing
Be nice if we could have a box that says Short URL

Wow, this has been on the wishlist since 2010! 10 years! 76 votes! Please implement. It's not sustainable for organization volunteers to be creating technical redirect pages, or to have to hire admins to do so just to be able to use sound marketing and SEO practices.
Agreed, we would like some transparency as to why this much-requested feature has not been implemented or when you will do so.

This is definitely needed for branding, marketing, & SEO purposes. Please consider adding it or at least responding to reasons why it has not been implemented. The Orginal idea was shared back on May 12, 2010.

I imagine that there is a reason the system generates the url for an event. In order to manage all the details associated with an event, registration rules, registrations, description etc the system has to acquire, organize and store the relevant data. This is understood. Giving the client the opportunity to use their own url would break that chain.
However, as an option, there should be an opportunity to associate a complete page of description, unencumbered by registration rules or a menu. In our case we have to condense the description on a single page the displays the menu, the registration rules and the description. There is often not enough real estate to provide adequate description promoting the event.
If there were an option to provide an additional page for promotion I believe the system could place the link to the registration and rules from the promotion page. If the option isn't taken the event registration would work as it does now.

I would like to see the ability to customized an event link to whatever we want to name it instead of an event number.

Chiming in on this. I would love to see custom URLs for events. It makes marketing and seo sense. I do not want to do a redirect.

Would love the have the ability for events to have a custom URL

This would be very valuable, so as to avoid sending folks to a custom-URL landing page, only to have to manually redirect them to the event.

Glad to see this request has been created. Hoping that is get voted in. It is important for branding of one's events to have the ability to customize each event & blog url to the organization/company. Crazy that is not already a customizable field.

In addition to its marketing and usability value, it would also make email clickthrough logs much more intelligible.

Agreed. WA already recognizes the importance of this, because WA gives the option of our naming web pages meaningfully.
It's nice that the URL is automatically set up, but it's absurd that we MUST send people to /event-2638106.
Would WA consider this sensible salesmanship in marketing its own site?
