I imagine that there is a reason the system generates the url for an event. In order to manage all the details associated with an event, registration rules, registrations, description etc the system has to acquire, organize and store the relevant data. This is understood. Giving the client the opportunity to use their own url would break that chain.
However, as an option, there should be an opportunity to associate a complete page of description, unencumbered by registration rules or a menu. In our case we have to condense the description on a single page the displays the menu, the registration rules and the description. There is often not enough real estate to provide adequate description promoting the event.
If there were an option to provide an additional page for promotion I believe the system could place the link to the registration and rules from the promotion page. If the option isn't taken the event registration would work as it does now.
