Inserting Gadgets in eMails like upcoming events or recent blog posts
Very glad to see the gadget feature just introduced.
Is it possible to insert the gadgets into emails generated through WA? This would be great for newsletters etc. and would save us the need to use a separate service to read RSS feeds etc. We could then start to consolidate our mailing list into WA as contacts (more $$ for you guys!)

No, no updates.

We are releasing big update into our website module in this year. As soon as we are done with that, we can start making other changes related to content editing, working with gadgets, etc. So this will have to wait for now, I'm really sorry to say that.

Is there an update to this feature? I would like to be able to insert an auto-generated event list in emails and newsletters sent through WA as well!

Yes! Option 2 would be great.
I want to add the upcoming event list to the event announcement emails and also email templates.

Yes! Does anyone know how to insert the event calendar into an event email or email template? I don't want to insert the event page (I know that can be done through widgets) just the information that appears if you insert the event gadget.
I tried copying the code that appears within the moduleholder tags, but it does not work.

Like this idea! Would be great to have it attached to reminder emails....

Since there is a link on an event page, to add it to your calender (through the download of an ics file), why not make that a {macro} you could insert into an event e-mail?

Idea #2 would be great! It would greatly simplify the creation of email if we had a fast way such as this to insert news and events.

I'm sure the other posters in this thread really meant that they would like to insert the actual gadget into an email and have it link back to the event/blog entry on the web site.
Probably too much work to be practical at this stage. So, of the options listed above, either would be an improvement, my vote would go to Option 2 especially if it could be preformatted into a table of some sort so that it stood out.

Idea 1.
Create special macro like {UPCOMING_EVENTS_SUMMARY}, {RECENT_BLOG_POSTS}. When admin composes email, he just inserts the macro into email body and system transforms it into special table with events or blog posts. Problem here is that admin cannot see and control the content of the macro - system does it automatically when sending email.
Idea 2.
Use same approach as during content page editing. Add new button into email composition top panel - next to Macro button - called "Insert gadget". When clicked, it shows list of available gadgets like events, blog posts, etc. Admin click on any of them and system adds into email corresponding data as a static content - so admin can edit it (add some comments, erase unneeded events, etc.). Once added into email, the content is not updated anymore.
Comments? Other ideas?

Yes, Yes, Yes! Having the ability to put the Upcoming Events widget into a newsletter or email would be fabulous and wonderful and would help get the information out about the events without having to send 30 emails.

The widget code that allows us to post blog/news summaries and events summaries on other pages is great, but it does not work in system-generated emails. Is it possible to create a gadget that we could post in email blasts to send out to members?

We'd be interested in also using the forum gadget as well as the events gadget in an email. We'd put it in a side column of the email.

Barry - can you give us an example of how you would use a gadget in an email? Does this apply to Events gadgets only?

Love LOVE the gadgets! Thank you so much. A few things.
- We'd like to be able to customize them using CSS.
- We'd like to be able to steal the formatting of the overall box to use in other elements on our site, Like a featured event box that looks much like the gadget of all events listed below. But we could edit the featured event.
- We'd like to be able to put them in emails
- We'd like to be able to share them with sites like Facebook
Thanks. Overall we are stoked! Our #1 maintenance on our site was updating our upcoming events list and now it's automated. Awesome!
