Free trial period for membership
I would like to offer a free trial access period for all payment levels. Rather like Wild Apricot does, but not necessarily for 30 days. Paypal offer this delayed action payment and it works very well. You can choose how long the free trial period is, and then the payment automatically kicks in.
Asking people for money upfront puts a lot of people off.

This comes up periodically in support so I am surprised by lack of feedback on this thread, would really appreciate input from others.

I'll put in a vote to have a trial membership capability. It would need to be flexible so that you could set if for as little as one day -- sort of a sneak peek.
The problem with your discount code approach, if I understand it correctly, is that it assumes a monthly renewal period for regular (paid) members. If the organization has an annual renewal, then a 100% discount would give them an entire year free.
If, on the other hand, you create a special membership level called "Trial Member" that expires in one month, then when it expires they are prompted to renew but as what -- a monthly "Trial Member"? And what cost? That doesn't make sense.
So I don't think a discount code works if your memberships are annual, only monthly. Furthermore, sometimes a free month is too long. I have a client who would like to offer a 24-hour free trial.

Membership discount coupons http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Discounts+and+complimentary+transactions are still the best way to setup trial accounts. On a somewhat related note you can now also pro-rate your new membership fees, see prorating membership dues http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Prorating+membership+dues+for+new+applications .

Hi,
We currently do not have built in trial periods, but it is something that is on our wishlist. For your situation, I would recommend using discount codes. Discount codes can only be used on new member applications and not renewals.
You can create a discount code for 100% of the application fee so that the first month is free. When the member tries to renew they will be asked for the full membership price. You can then state what the discount code is on the member application page. More information on discount coupons can be found here http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Discounts+and+complimentary+transactions .

Hi,
Is there a trial membership option as a membership level? I'd like to give trial memberships to potential members. Currently, I have a trial membership manually set up so that it has monthly renewals with no automatic renewal. I set the action to "change to lapse" if the person does not renew. When I did a test profile, I saw two option buttons:
1. change membership level (which I want the person to do)
2. Renew for another month (for free, since it's a trial)
Obviously, I don't want people to keep renewing their free trial membership, but I can't find the option to get rid of the renew button.
What to do?

Hi,We'd like to offer free trial memberships so people can see what our members-only page has to offer. Currently the shortest renewal period for a membership level is monthly - are there any plans to make shorter time periods available or to allow the administrator to enter the duration of the renewal period manually?Thanks...

GreetingsIs there a way to offer no-charge "trial" memberships? For example, is there a way to accept an application for membership, allow the applicant to "look around" for a few days, and then decide to join? Or, as an option, have the ability to cancel within a certain period of time?Thanks...I love your service!!
