Discount coupons for event registrations
I tried implementing the arrangement for coupon codes for events this week.
I'm sorry, but I really don't like the way it currently works.
To explain, I wanted to setup a coupon code in WA for 25% off a registration for any event. To start with, I needed to edit every single event one at a time to do so. Then, when I logged in and practiced going through the process of registering, it showed the 25% off rate as an option. Anyone could see the amount of the coupon, even if they did not know the code and therefore could not complete the registration.
For me, this defeats the whole purpose of it being a "code". If I have 25% off and 50% off showing as an option, everyone is going to ask for the code. I don't want everyone to know there even is a code.
I would greatly prefer that coupon codes be an option sitewide for registrations.
It should also not be an option for registering, but rather a code that you enter when completing the registration. It should not be obvious codes even exist except that there is an optional box when completing the registration.
This seems to be more in line with what most e-commerce websites do, right? For example, isn't this basically how gift cards work at Target, Staples, etc?

Hey Dmitry,
Our organization focuses heavily on events and on sponsors. We are hoping to be able to create coupons for the sponsors to be able to register for events for free. We also have four different type of events, and are hoping to find a way to set up a different number of free tickets for each event type.
We really desire the coupon to be assigned to the sponsor company, and for the sponsor to be able to apply the code at/or just before the payment options.
An additional and useful feature would be for the sponsor to be given the option to use the code, or to pay, and then for the receipt to indicate the number of free events that the sponsor has remaining.
I hope this makes sense.
Cheers.

Is there a way to do this where you can apply a 50% discount to various options. For example, for our meeting registrations, we have 4 different options.
Member - Program Only: $10.00
Member - Program + Dinner: $20.00
Guest - Program only: $20.00
Guest - Program + Dinner: $30.00
We'd like to be able to set up a code that would give them a 50% discount of off these events.
Thanks.

I see where you can create a discount coupon for membership application, but I have not been able to find anything on creating a discount code for registering for an event.
Can anyone provide some direction on this? Please advise.
Thanks.

Sorry, I do not have good news for you - this has not been scheduled into a particular release so I do not know when this might be implemented.
2. The only workaround I can think of is to use event coupon codes, see

Dmitry - we are heavy on events, and the need to issues discounts via code - and having the special discounts "hidden" - as others have requested.
After moving all my events over from Eventbrite.com I realize now that this is a major problem and now I can't integrate my events into WA. This is very disappointing ..... so, before I go and leave WA and go seek another service .... two questions:
1. When realistically, can the feature be expected in WA?
2. Is the a simple workaround that WA or a use has devised?
Thank,

That makes sense, thank you for more details. What if instead of having 3 registration types for 1, 2 or 3 day rates you create it as "extra-cost" with 3 radiooptions? This would reduce total number of reg types to 4.
And I also think if we make a change in the system and allow to have "extra-cost" value to be negative, can it work as discount? In your case there could be additional "extra-cost" checkbox like "I'm student" which gives a certain amount of discount.
I would be glad to hear your comments.

Well yes and no.
In my case I have one day, two day and three day registration rates for both members and non-members. Then I have early bird and late registration. I want to offer students a discount on registration so in order to do that without a discount I would need to duplicate all those registration types with the student discounts.
So I end up with 3 reg categories X 2 membership types (yes or no) X 2 times spans (early or late) X 2 Student categories (yes or no)
So now I need to create 24 levels of registrations... and there is no duplicate registration type, SO I have to create them by hand and it confuses my members when I am done.
Event based discounts would really simplify this situation.

I believe that this particular situation can be resolved by just creating a separate registration type on event with reduced price. No need in special discount coupons.

I would like to be able to issue discount codes for events without it being an option on the registration page. For example, they would register as a regular attendee, then when they input the discount code, it will take off the percentage or dollar amount automatically before checking out.
We offer free registrations for certain sponsors but do not want it made public or an option, however we still need to capture registration information as a though they are a paid registrant.

FYI - currently there are no discounts for events but there is a way to create specially priced registration types - 'event coupon codes'. See http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Event+coupon+codes
Our thinking for the future is to create universal discount codes which can be restricted to certain areas.

I want a way to limit discounts to events. For example, students get 10% off our annual conference and that is it. I don't want to give them 10% of membership, meals, etc, but there seems to be no way to do this. Also not all stand alone programs may provide a student member. Therefore I would like to be able to restrict the events like I can the membership levels now.

Perhaps it would be useful if I explained the thinking behind our original request for enhancements to the event discount codes.
We are a chamber of commerce and as well as attracting new members and keeping existing members we do need to "incentivise" them to be active members and attend our networking and other events. To do this we have identified several approaches that event codes should be able to help us with.
(1) A Joining offer, e.g. offer "3 free events" to new members to encourage them to get involved in the Chamber from the start. Here we would like to be able to send a unique code to a new member as part of the joining sequence.
This would be valid for the full price of a specific sort of event and would be valid for say 3 or 4 months. It would be valid 3 times and the member should have some way of telling how many he has used/left.(2) Offer an event "season ticket" so that we could offer things like "12 events for the price of 10".
Again this code would be valid for specific event types, be valid for say 12 months and would be unique to the purchaser.
This sort of thing would of course also need a way of being sold and the member would again need a way of knowing his "event balance".(3) Have "single shot" unique codes that would be valid for one use only. These could be used as prizes or as special "thank you"s to members
(4) Offer a permanent discount to members of our executive committee or other special attendees.
This would be something like a 50% discount code but would only be visible to certain membership levelsRegards,
Ian

This is a great input - very helpful in our thinking about this redesign, thanks!

What I would love to see is the ability to create coupon codes that are not necessarily tied to specific events. For example, we charge for monthly meetings, and we've heard from our members that they would like to be able to buy a package of meetings at once, rather than doing the paperwork to get reimbursed for a $15 meeting every single month.
So I'd like to be able to sell a meeting package, let's say for $90, which would consist of 6 coupon codes that I would then send the member. The coupon codes could be used by any member (it would be the purchaser's responsibility to keep them secret, or give them to friends/coworkers who were also members if they wanted) but they could be limited to specific events, or limited by event category. They would also have expiration dates.
For our purposes, they would provide a $15 discount (so that the meeting would essentially be free), but I could see how it would also be useful to have % discounts.
That's how we would want it to work. Thank you!

Ian, being on the roadmap means that we intend to implement it within the next 12 months. In terms of specific functionality - this has not been designed yet. Generally we are thinking of creating a uniform discount feature for memberships and events as now exists for new membership applications.

As this topic is on the "roadmap", are you in a position to give me some indication as to what enhancements you are thinking of implementing and when they might be completed?
