Virtual / digital products
We would like to sell online products, all of them accessible using a URL.
This means to have a place (a directory) where to store the virtual products and the online store will supply, upon receiving the money, the necessary grant to the purchased product.
Happy to announce, that with the version 7.17 release we added the support of digital products to Online Store module.
You can sell attach a digital file or provide a URL linking to a hosted file or virtual meeting.
Once a digital product order is paid, it is automatically fulfilled and an email with a link to the digital product is automatically sent to your buyer.

The online help documentation states we can use the "message to the customer" field to provide a URL link to facilitate selling digital product in an online store but I don't see it anywhere. Did this get dropped from 6.1?

I notice this was promised in version 6.1, but still hasn't been implemented. Many other stores have the ability to provide a digital download with each product, so until this is implemented we are stick using Shopify.
Is there an update on this feature?

Would be good to be able to customise thank you for your purchase emails the same way we do for events.
We sell downloads - so would be good if we could include links to purchases within the shop

Once a PDF is purchased the user can then download the file onto their computer.

Yes, and customizing the auto response email per product would help a lot with this. Right now there's just one auto-response purchase email template for all products.

Most of the items in our shopping cart are e-resources.
I would like to be able to customize the auto response when someone purchases the item with all of the download information. -

Where would the files be stored? Should they be stored on the website? Or are they saved on a cloud drive? Kerry

There is going to be an opportunity to provide a customer with an URL in the next (6.1) release. There is going to be a new field in order details called 'message to the customer'. Any text inserted in that field will be pasted into a notification email sent to the customer upon order fulfilment. You may paste URL or multiple URLs there and the person will receive them via email.
Will that work for you? Or do you need this to happen automatically?
