Ability to switch membership level more easily
Two suggestions for making it easier for members to switch from one membership level to another, in our case from an annual membership (renewal required each year) to a sustaining membership (recurring payment of dues authorized):
First, I would like to see a link in the INVOICE sent for renewal/dues payment to include a link for switching to a different membership level, something that would trigger a new invoice to reflect the change and void the old invoice.. As it is now, when a member gets an invoice, it would take a few extra steps to go to his/her profile to change the membership level and generate a new invoice., if he or she even remembers that is an option. In our case, we want to make it really easy for those with annual memberships to switch to sustaining memberships, to make it more likely they will make that switch.
Second, a member should be able to switch from a membership with no recurring payment to a membership with a recurring payment at any time and not have the recurring payment start until the membership renewal date. As it is now, I believe the member must generate a new invoice to make the membership level change, and the associated dues must be paid before the change is effective. That means, in our case, that someone who renews their annual membership, but then decides soon thereafter to switch to a sustaining membership (with recurring payment authorized), gets an invoice saying dues must be paid again, even though he or she has just paid the annual membership dues. (In our case, the cost of each membership is the same, so there isn't a balance that has to be paid to "upgrade.") I haven't been able to find a way to set up the sustaining membership level to avoid this happening, and have had to manually void the invoice to get past this.
