Create a waiting list for an event before the registration or for an event with date to be determined
Sometimes we have an idea for an event in the future but not sure if there will be enough interest to set it up with an actual date. Could we have a waitlist for an event that does not yet have a date? That we could accumulate a hopefully growing list of interested people that we can keep in touch with via email and then notify them if and when an event date is finally picked.

I think this description means a list of people waiting for an event yet to be scheduled. It doesn't mean a waitlist in the Wild Apricot terms. We do this by created an event called "Interest in Book Club" for example. People can register for this and the next time we have enough, we start a new club. This way people can see themselves on the list and self cancel if they are no longer interested.

Can you just set the event date 50 years in the future and tell people to ignore it?
Set the registration limit to 1 (it won't accept 0) and register yourself to fill it up. Then people will be able to waitlist.
When the date is set, raise the limit, email the waiting list and tell them to register on the event page.

I would be able to set most of my events like this and if they don't fill up, cancel them without too much of an issue!
