Discount coupons for event registrations
I tried implementing the arrangement for coupon codes for events this week.
I'm sorry, but I really don't like the way it currently works.
To explain, I wanted to setup a coupon code in WA for 25% off a registration for any event. To start with, I needed to edit every single event one at a time to do so. Then, when I logged in and practiced going through the process of registering, it showed the 25% off rate as an option. Anyone could see the amount of the coupon, even if they did not know the code and therefore could not complete the registration.
For me, this defeats the whole purpose of it being a "code". If I have 25% off and 50% off showing as an option, everyone is going to ask for the code. I don't want everyone to know there even is a code.
I would greatly prefer that coupon codes be an option sitewide for registrations.
It should also not be an option for registering, but rather a code that you enter when completing the registration. It should not be obvious codes even exist except that there is an optional box when completing the registration.
This seems to be more in line with what most e-commerce websites do, right? For example, isn't this basically how gift cards work at Target, Staples, etc?

Our major annual event offers discounts for early registration and also for leading a workshop. Your current options only allow adding costs for selected features. We would like to subtract costs in order to offer these discounts.

Corey, we will do our best, but as of yet we do not know if this will fit into Q4 or will have to be done later.
Ok, thanks for the update. I'll hold my breath for Q4. It's close.
We're looking to do a big ramp up for 2009 so that will work for us.
Can a feature be added to the events area (o member type) where a type of member has automatically an "x%" discount/markup over the standard rate?
We run a university dive club where current students pay 50% less than the rest of the community (alumni, uni staff, lecturers, etc).
It will make SO much easier to set events.
Not yet, sorry. we are discussing now if we can include this in our Q4 work.
I know it's only been a month ago that this was commented on. But it's a biggie for us.
Any news on it?
Wonderful. I'm glad to hear it.
We worked hard to put our site into WA with the hope that these improvements were practically inevitable.
Corey, excellent points and be assured that we will be taking your ideas into considerations. It will be a while before we tackle this change - need to finish some of the things already on the go (e.g. invoicing) - but we are thinking in the same direction as you have outlined.
I think there should be a function for members to enter a promotional code when registering for an event. I know that I as an administrator can add a credit to the members account, but what if you have alot of registrations and do not have time to go through 100 members account and add the credit. It was be a lot easier for the member to just be able to add their own promotional when registering.
