Discount coupons for event registrations
I tried implementing the arrangement for coupon codes for events this week.
I'm sorry, but I really don't like the way it currently works.
To explain, I wanted to setup a coupon code in WA for 25% off a registration for any event. To start with, I needed to edit every single event one at a time to do so. Then, when I logged in and practiced going through the process of registering, it showed the 25% off rate as an option. Anyone could see the amount of the coupon, even if they did not know the code and therefore could not complete the registration.
For me, this defeats the whole purpose of it being a "code". If I have 25% off and 50% off showing as an option, everyone is going to ask for the code. I don't want everyone to know there even is a code.
I would greatly prefer that coupon codes be an option sitewide for registrations.
It should also not be an option for registering, but rather a code that you enter when completing the registration. It should not be obvious codes even exist except that there is an optional box when completing the registration.
This seems to be more in line with what most e-commerce websites do, right? For example, isn't this basically how gift cards work at Target, Staples, etc?

Can you give an estimated timeline for this to be completed?
Thank you.

Sorry that this had been lower on our priority list than other things, some of which took longer to implement than anticipated. We are now working on analysis and design of discount codes to be used throughout the system. It is high on priority to be addressed this year. I will share more details as the work progresses.

After reading this thread it seems this has been on the radar for years now. There is a very simple option for discount codes for membership. Why not for events?
I use WA for a couple of clients and this is a real problem. The entire point of a discount code is so that the discount amount isn't advertised to everyone. I can't use a Registration Type with a code, which is then visible to everyone registering, even if they can't register for it. Registrants will automatically ask why they can't get that lower pricing.
I hate to state what has already been stated but what is the hold up on this issue?

I would like to be able to use a discount coupon code for events and not just memberships.

Not in 2013, sorry - but we are currently performing analysis and design.

Here's my vote to add to the support for more professional coupon codes that only show the amount of the discount upon completing the checkout process for event registration.
Right now, when I post an event coupon code, it shows as a separate registration, which is messy and confusing to the folks trying to register, and since all discounts are visible, it suppresses registrations from those without codes/discounts. NOT A GOOD THING!!
Sure, sometimes they call to complain about not getting member pricing, or what's happening is that people are using codes they got from other folks to "beat the system," which defeats the purpose of having discount codes to reward certain populations.
Is this functionality going to be implemented in 2013? It has been requested for the past 5 years, and I thought it was coming or I would not have kept my site here.
As others have noted, this is a real deal-breaker.
Thanks.

Hi Guys,
We're new to Wild Apricot and reading this thread I'm thinking I'll have to vote for the event discounts set up as other people have suggested in line with most other ecommerce sites.
Our upcoming conference offers discounts for...
Early Bird Rego
Members
Pensioners
Sponsors etc.
Plus there are options for full registration for the 2 days, Day 1 only or day 2 only.
and combinations of the above.... so using unique registration types for all different combinations suggests we would need a huge number of registration types instead of just a couple then offering coupon codes to apply universal discounts to basic registration types.
If anyone had any suggestions on the best way to set up our conference registration types, it would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Briony

Wondering how the progress on this post is coming along? We also have multiple registration prices for events, all based on membership level. I would like to be able to provide a discount code that offers the same discount (for example, 10%) to registrants without it being a registration option. The code would be used during checkout so that anyone, regardless of membership level/event registration fee, receives 10% off their price.
This also simplifies the administrative end because the administrator can email the discount code.

Again, why not creating a single registration option (with reduced price) that requires code to use (this is possible to do in WA)? You can email the code to 500 people with instructions to use specific registration option and enter the code during registration.
Sorry, no plans yet. Why hidden registration types do not work for you? Or you want to suggest registration without actually showing any price until code is entered?
In the past, we've sent out individualized single-use registration codes to large numbers of members; for example, this year we'll probably be sending out about 500-1,000, which are redeemable at any of a certain category of event.
This is a pain in our current event management software, but as far as I can tell it would be completely impossible at WildApricot, at least without showing everyone 500 different registration options.
Here's what I would like to see in discount codes, from most desirable to basic functionality that would let us move over from our current software:
1) My ideal solution would be to do this completely in WildApricot. Create a field for the 500 people who get discounts this year, and have WA generate and send discount codes that apply to a certain class of event. They type the code in a box and the code is used. I don't have to do anything else.
2) A more realistic solution: I write a script that generates 500 single-use codes. I manually assign them to users and send the users an email (probably by exporting, adding the codes in Excel, and re-importing).
Now I have a list of 500 codes that have been sent out. WildApricot gives me a box somewhere to copy and paste in the 500 codes, one per line or comma-separated, and assign them all to one event with the same characteristics.
3) The bare minimum. As above, but I have to type in all 500 codes one by one for each event. Users don't see 500 different registration options.

We could also really use event discount codes that work exactly the same as membership discount codes! Currently we are tracking registrations and changing the price on the admin side.

At the time I am not having anybody register for the site itself, just the events. So basically everybody signing up is a guest and the same registration type. I do want to show the base price of the event, but I do not want to show the price it comes to with the discount code until it is entered.
I understanding reading through a couple of the threads that the membership sign up and event sign up are "coded differently", but how you enter the discount code in the membership sign up is exactly what I'm looking for in the event sign up process.

Is this feature still in the works? This is really one of the bigger reasons I decided to switch to a event driven website. Our site doesn't start offering events until Summer and was really hoping to have discount codes in which all customers can't see unless they type in the code.
This is a great site, customer service has been extremely helpful. The only thing is for the type of business we have, I can almost get away using a online form building site for $30 a year and spend $9 a month on a WYSWYG type site if a feature like this isn't implemented, especially after a couple years of people asking for it.
Again, I love the site, I just think that this is almost a must have feature for an event driven site.

I'm casting my vote for this this enhancement. We have five different memberships with different event pricing. And now our Board wants to discount pricing to some other special groups. This can be accomplished by creating registration levels for each group/membership level. But it results in a long (and confusing) list of registration options.
The membership discount code works great. If it could be ported to events, you would solve another issue for us.
Keep up the great work!

We really need this functionality as well. I second the comments to have the codes work as in the membership side. We do not want others to see what they cannot take advantage of. The following would be appreciated:
* The ability to take either a percentage or flat dollar amount off the base price
* Expiration dates on the codesThank you for your consideration,

I agree - we have the same issue and it is a deal breaker. We can't use WA for events unless we can have true, totally secret discount codes. The same way they work in the membership application.
I posted more detail in response to another similar post - sorry for the duplication, but this is super important to us and I am really disappointed after doing a lot of work to set up the events in WA to find this problem. I really love Wild Apricot and I want to use the Events feature.
Thanks for your consideration,
Joan

I see that you have been talking about the potential for true coupon codes for events since 2008. You have this for memberships and it works great! We need this for events as well because we just can't show all the possible discounts to all the customers. This will make them feel dissatisfied with the fact that they are not getting a discount. As others have mentioned, listing all the potential discounts that people can't get defeats the purpose of the this discount code. All we need is a space for people to put in a code that decreases the price. Exactly the same as the discount codes for members. This is a deal breaker for us and we can't use WA events with the discount codes the way they are. We will have to stay with Regonline for events, which is a huge disappointment for me because I love Wild Apricot and I was looking forward to having everything integrated.
Thanks for considering this,
Joan

And I also think if we make a change in the system and allow to have "extra-cost" value to be negative, can it work as discount? In your case there could be additional "extra-cost" checkbox like "I'm student" which gives a certain amount of discount.
This is a great work around- and we have the smae issues. We have so many levels of registration for our events since we offer discounts to many partner groups.
If we could set up ONE registration and have them click options say 10% discount for members of X group, that is great!
We would ask that there be a way to enable the discount with a code so that it is not open to everyone!

Hi Ben, I am not clear - have you considered using event coupon codes and found them lacking for your scenario? If so, please email support with more details and we will try to analyze.
