Restore archived members as contacts without membership
Some of our past members would like to receive the email blasts we send out via Wild Apricot. When I try to go in and pull these past members out of archive, I am not able to make them just contacts. I am able to change their status to lapsed member, but doing so skews our membership count. Could you make a cleaner way to make past members contacts without adding them to the number of members?

If I'm understanding this original Wish correctly, we manage it by changing a Member to Suspended when they resign. "Suspended" means only that to us: "Former Member." One annoyance, albeit minor, is that to update their contact data or something, we have to reactivate them, revise data, then Suspend again. This invites errors, and if there is a Date Suspended field (I haven't checked), it would mess that up. By the way, we include Former Members in most of our mailings. Although open rates suggest they are not as interested as Non-Member contacts overall, standard marketing principles observe that a former customer is one of your best sales prospects.

This is a really important point. WA has no way to use the addresses from lapsed/suspended members unless we un-archive them and then delete their entire record as a member and re-enter them as a contact. If we do that, we lose all their previous membership data—in case they ever want to renew. It is also very time consuming to restore the record, delete the record, and make a new record as a contact only.

Keith, you can suspend membership in such case. More details here - https://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Suspending%20a%20membership
