This is too much of suggestions in one idea, we won’t be able to work with this. Some suggestions are already in separate posts.
Here is a proposal: the event gadget should have a method of dynamically filtering the content once displayed by "event type". This way users can look for "baseball" or "soccer" or "cricket" or "tiddly winks" if wanted.
