Automated Repeating Email
Provide the ability to send out an email repeatedly according to a schedule.
That's the suggestion. Now I'll tell you how to fake it. :)
Create a repeating event to provide the schedule. Enter the email as an announcement email. So now the email will go out
repeatedly to whichever recipients you specify.
If the announcement is a deadline - for example, a reminder for monthly newsletter submissions - you have the option to make the event visible, either to all, or just to the group of recipients. Or you can leave the event in Admin (invisible) status and still send the emails.
I haven't tried this yet, but ran it by WA support and was told it should work. If someone does try it, please let us know.

Setup a GMail calendar.
Add the recurring event on whatever basis
Use Integromat to read the calendar for events due in the next N days.
Get contacts from WA (as applicable)
Now send the email from the GMail account (with Integromat) with the calendar data to the selected members.
Schedule the scenario to run as and when you want (daily/weekly etc) -

I tried your work-around, but realized that it doesn't work (unless I'm missing something) I created an event with weekly repeated sessions. But, the announcement is sent only once - before the first session. The reminder emails are sent before each session, but only to people who have registered for the (fake) event. If you can figure out how to make it work, I would appreciate knowing how!

I tried this and it does NOT work. The event emails are not sent out until you make the event able to be viewed by people other than admin.
