Better, clearer organization of email templates
We'd like to improve the current workflow of creating and using email templates. In this thread we've collected all the comments we've found about email templates and merged related threads. Feel free to add more ideas.
Here are the most common wishes:
1. Sort templates into folders,
2. Full display of long filenames,
3. Sorting and search
4. Save without quiting

Yes! I so agree! We are sending out a weekly email to our membership and the page is getting cluttered. Putting the past emails in a file would be very helpful. Please, please, make this available.

Hello Laura,
Thank you for your suggestion.
Frankly speaking, we're planning to redesign custom template view, no timeline confirm yet.By the way, we're conducting user testing of our future prototypes on a regular basis. Would you be interested in participating in such a test?

I would like the option to view email templates listed by name, not by thumbnail.

Make email templates and emailing more intuitive. The templates are fine, except one can never figure out how they work. Way too much time lost trying to use them.

I suggest this could be retitled "Make Email Template Choices Clearer."
After Compose Email is clicked, for a New email WA shows me the Simple template and our Custom Templates, and then the Themed Templates. Below that - where I never looked - are the Basic Templates, with Blank hidden at the bottom. So I've been using Simple for months when what I really wanted was Blank.
Also, the Simple template does not appear on the Email Templates screen. It should.
So I suggest that on both the Email Templates screen and after Compose Email, the templates should be displayed the same. First, the Custom Templates. Then the Basic Templates, with Simple and Blank first. Then the Themed and System Templates.
If you want to make sure the user knows about the Themed and System Templates, put links to them up at the top of the template list.

We would like to be able to group our email templates into folders for ease of look-up; we have membership emails, newsletter emails, parent newsletters and emails dealing with specific topics. With several different people working emails it would be helpful to also be able to limit them to specific folders.

Hi, thanks for sharing. Why is it so important?

It is crucial to have current date field in email templates. This will minimize the need to insert manually, every time.

Have a "Search" feature that allows you to search for a Template in the Template section of Emails. We have many templates to scan before finding what we need.

I too would like to insert a date macro into my custom e-mail templates. That way I could avoid having to update the template to list the current date each time I send an e-mail using the template.
