Set join date as date dues were paid
It often happens that people complete the application and then take a few weeks (or even more) to actually pay their initial dues. The "joined" date is automatically set as the day they filled out the application. I'd like to be able to instead have it be the date the money showed up.

Sebastian, thanks for posting.
As I understand, in your case you need to calculate the renewal date for new members based on the date when they pay for their membership.
There are other administrators who need the opposite, current behavior when renewal date calculates based on join / invoice generation date. Both cases are valuable – I’ll wait for others to comment on this. Probably there should be an option in the level setup so admin can choose appropriate behavior.

I'd recommend to add an option where, instead of membership renewals occurring relative to the member's join date or a static day of the year, a renewal extends to a year past when the renewal was paid for.
For example, a member joins on July 15th and pays for their renewal on August 17th of next year. As it stands, that renewal would expire on July 15th - but since my organization stops services to lapsed members, I have to manually make sure our renewals are expiring a year after they pay, and not before.
