import groups
Hello,
We are experiencing some difficulty importing lists from lets say,
Constant Contact to Wild Apricot. We have created "saved searches" and
there are contacts who belong to several "groups" we have created in WA.
However, when we are uploading a fresh list to a group from CC to WA, it will upload to that specific group AND wipe out all other groups the constituent belongs too.
It's not a very intuitive process and I advise WA create a warning sign
that pops up before importing "this import will override any group the
contact belongs to, are you sure you want to continue?".
Even in constant contact, you can upload lists of people to different
groups and it won't change anything else.
Contacts can belong to many groups
at once, and it doesn't make any sense that WA overrides this if we import and want to update one group.
I don't know of any other database that does this.

It's a bit discouraging that we are relatively new to WA and attempting to import our group lists, only to find the last comments on this are 9 years old and the issue still exits.
Anyway, we are having the same issue - as I am importing our dozens of various mailing lists, committees, etc., they are overwriting on each import. I don't understand why it wouldn't a) at minimum warn you that you are overwriting data and b) give a choice of ADDING new data or overwriting existing data. I'm going to have to do a LOT of manipulating of spreadsheets to get this to the point where I could import correctly. I have to decide now if it's worth doing that, or if I'm better off going to each list/group and adding people one by one. There MUST be a better way.

Agreed, the only way I've been able to make this work is export all members, then manipulate the Group particpants field (which a comma delimited list) in Excel, then re-import. It's really nasty and a negative for a product that aims to do away with the need to manage a club with spreadsheets :(

Yes, this is mos frustrating.... Not being able to import a list of eMails with Group listings without wiping out their existing groups. It would be helpful to have an additive type import for the groups or a way to go to the group name and paste a list of eMails that should be added to it.
