Enhance Site Search to search through files
Users assume search boxes operate much like major search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc). Major search engines index PDF files if they are generated with searchable text. The search facility in the Site Search gadget does not search PDF files. It would be much better if it did.

This feature is super important to me. The internet search engines cannot see major parts of my site because they are restricted. But I have hundreds of PDF newsletters available for viewing, but no search can even find them.

I agree this is a significant problem with this service. We have a large amount of handouts, publications, and other documents that aren't searchable on the inernet.

I would like to add that the capability to include search of .pdf files would be a great asset to our association.

This would make our lives much easier. As a workaround we have configured individual searches for minutes and newsletters by using Zoom Search Engine (zoomsearchengine.com) from PassMark (formerly WrenSoft) with java script. This requires constant maintenance.

We have 40 years of newsletters in pdf, the expanded search function would be huge for us. The sooner the better.

Similar comments - I have thousands of files from 19+ years - impossible to turn to page content. When a user searches a website, they expect to, and it is reason to be able to find content within files contained with in the website site.
Until this fixed, Wild Apricot should put a warning message up each time a user enters text in the search field, that it will NOT find the search word or phrase in any document associated with the site.

I agree, searchable pdf feature would be very useful.

Our organization has 14 years worth of newsletters in pdf format that we would like to have included in our site search. We were directed to FreeFind as an alternative, but it's clunky, and has advertising unless you get a paid subscription.

I REALLY need this function! I have 25 years (more than 3,000 pages) of horticultural research that I want my members to be able to search. The current search widget only looks at pages and not the content (or text) of the linked files. I simply cannot create 3,000+ pages of text on my site. It would be great if this functioned more like search engines!

All of our organization meeting minutes are in PDF, and it would be a large job to convert these all to HTML and create pages in WildApricot just so that we could make the content searchable.
This is a huge issue for our organization, as this is a primary use of the site -- to go back through our history and find out how and when decisions were made.

I can see there aren't many votes for this items at the moment, but this ability is HUGE for us. We've got quite a number of historical newsletters and peer reviewed documents on the site which are referenced by visitors. Right now, a visitor cannot search these pdf documents for a topic. If WA can't index the text in a PDF, consider allowing third party add-on application which do.
