Show new messages / comments since last login
Our forums are languishing because our members say there's no easy way to tell what conversations are active. We need a search function at the top of the forum that includes things like:
-recent posts
-active topics
-unanswered posts
Basically, the forums need a major upgrade in order to be useful. The only reason we haven't moved to a different forum software is because we want to maintain one login for our members.

This is what I said we'd want in "Forum--search function" thread. I'll repeat it here.
In addition to the three search options Vesta suggests (above), also please include "New Comments since last login". They could all be flagged or marked when the forum Topics open.
We'd really like to be able to search by username and by keyword so we can locate previous conversations.
We want what Jay above wants.

Sorry for a late reply. I agree with your point - forums need a major upgrade. Unfortunately we are currently busy with changing a different part of our system (CMS and payments) and no chance we can make major forum changes in 2011.
In the meantime I would be glad to here from others on the initial comment on things like recent posts, active topics, etc.

This is good suggestion. Anybody wants to comment/rate this?
Jay - I assume that there have to be some link that helps user to show all unread thread? Also, an action to mark all as read?

I would like to see a flag on the topics that have been added etc between user logins.
This would point the users to the unread messages.
