Enable Conditional Display / Enable field by separate field selection
Currently, Personify does not support conditional display or enabling of contact fields based on the value of another field. All fields are set to display by default.
Our desired intended use would be to only display/enable free text fields when the "Other" option is enabled in a multi-select field. For example, a contact/member can select from a pre-populated set of multiselect checklist items for the "Degree" field (Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, MD, PhD, PharmD, other). If the "Other" option is selected, a free-text field would either appear to the user or become enabled for the user to document their custom degree option.
Current behavior results in double-documentation or confusing mismatched data. The ideal solution would be to have the free-text field enabled by population of the "other" selection be collapsed/hidden from the user by default until "other" is selected. That may be technically challenging and require dynamic end user display. An alternative workaround would be to have the free-text field nested under the multi-select options and grayed out until "other" is enabled. This would display the option to the user but only enable it for modification when the appropriate multi-select item is activated.
Regardless of the display behavior (not-presented by default or presented-but-disabled by default), another workable solution would be to have a mixed selection type field: Pre-populated items would be multi-select but a free-text field would also be available within the multi-select item type if the "other" multi-select option is selected. This would have the added benefit of limiting the number of custom fields (e.g. "Other Degree") as the information they intend to capture would be contained under the pre-populated items field (e.g. "Degree")
Attached are three images for contact documentation. The first is current behavior, the second image displays "hidden by default" behavior while the third displays "enabled by selection" behavior. In either scenario, the "other" free-text field as displayed is its own separate contact field; it it could be included under the multi-select heading for the contact field above, it would streamline the process considerably. Thanks!
