It would be nice to have the flexibility to sort the blogs by the latest dates, to have a field for tags for SEO, and to have a field for the summary that appears on the listing so we can have a proper layout in the listing

This is HUGE... not a 'nice to have', it's a MUST have. Blogs are a great way to drive traffic to your website, ie: attract potential new members. With a slug that's a bunch of stupid numbers and zero meta data for each blog, it's literally a waste... NO ONE WILL EVERY FIND IT unless you're just strolling through the blog list, which as someone else pointed out, isn't even sortable by category. For the love of God, bump this to the top of your plans.
