This would help us. We use a blog gadget on our home page to publicize upcoming events. We can order them by changing the post date.

It would be great to be able to set a delete date so an event disappears right after it happens.

Can this script be used to change the colors of the event text, by changing "background-color" to something else?

It is such a big help to us, I keep trying to make it even better. :)

I am so grateful for this workaround, but am coming across more limitations. If there is more than one tag for an event, it uses the default color.

It would be great if you could suggest a change to the javascript that would use one of the tags if there are more than one, and/or will cope with a space in the tag name.

If not, perhaps the help page should mention these limitations.

With or without changes, this has so improved the ability of our calendar to emphasize and communicate events to our members.

I don't think this works if there is a space in the event tag name. Just pointing it out - it was not a problem for us to work around.

Our calendar looks so much more organized now. Thanks!

And the crowd goes wild! :)

Liz, you wanted a color-coded key under the calendar. You can put the key in a Content Gadget right under the Event Calendar Gadget.

Regarding Javascript, see my comment below. If event tags could be made available for custom Javascript, we could pay a third party developer to implement this for us. Without that internal modification, the cost would be ten times as much and out of our price range.

Below someone (presumably WA staff) said "... but perhaps you could create some custom javascript. You can contact our partners who can help you with this customization."

I did talk to a partner who said that the event tags are not available to javascript in the event calendar month view. Are they missing something? Or could this be made available with not too much effort?

Thanks for any help you can provide in enabling a workaround to provide this very useful feature.

Update: When our domain moves to WA, you can still see our old calendar format at http://g.tyc.org/events.html . Go back to Sept. 2015 or earlier to get the full effect.

It is really too bad that the WA calendar is so homogeneous. We are reduced to using lower case and parentheses to differentiate events.

    Yes, please.

We've been using the free Calcium calendar http://www.tyc.org/events.html for over 10 years now. Our members are used to seeing the color coding.

Ben, why wouldn't it have worked to just duplicate the whole event and edit that? It's easier to delete parts that don't apply than to enter from scratch the ones that do.

There are so many settings to an event, I always start with a copy of one that I know I got right.

Now, copying a registration type to make another similar but not identical one - that would be handy.

This feature would allow setting a field aside that admins could enter.

For example, we've got an event for which we need to assign each member to a boat (or a table, or a starting time). It would be nice to be able to put that in a field that the registrant couldn't write in.

If the fields could have the same "privacy" options that Contact fields have, that would do the trick - and would also satisfy this request: https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/10035207-event-registration-fields-only-for-members

If you want to add event to your calendar from member-facing page, then you could use mobile app for members. Each event there can be added to your device calendar in a single tap.
Here is a related help article https://gethelp.wildapricot.com/en/articles/1516#events

If you want to make a mass export of your events in other calendar system, like Google calendar, then you can use integration service Integromat. We already have a preconfigured integration scenario for WA + Google calendar pair and a similar one could be easily implemented for other calendars. Here is a quick-start link https://www.integromat.com/en/integration/2276-copy-wild-apricot-events-into-google-calendar

Please put "Add to my calendar" on the registration confirmation page. This is too simple to start a new thread, and I hope you can just go ahead and do it in an upcoming release.

We go through the many pages of the registration process, and each page has "Add to my calendar" at the upper right. But we have other things to do on those pages.

Finally we reach the confirmation page, when we are at last ready to add the event to our calendar ... and there's no link.

Yes, we could click "Return to event" and add it, but why not do it here?

Since we don't have this problem - all our members renew on December 1 and that's the date even if they pay months late - I wonder if Liz could solve her problem by having 12 levels of membership, one for each renewal month. It's not a pretty workaround - and not feasible if there are different membership levels already that would all have to be split in 12 - but if it's a serious problem this could address it. There could be one "Annual Member" level, and when someone joins in June, say, they could be moved by hand to "Annual Member (6)" that renews in June.

You may want to vote for this item:

    https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/17025151-advanced-search-filters-for-member-group-managemen

In the meantime I think you can do this by exporting the results of the advanced search in Excel, putting in the group membership desired, and re-importing the records. It's clumsy but easier than going through 4000 names.

You may be able to compute all your group assignments in one Excel export of your full membership rather than using advanced search.

Before re-importing, it might be safer to delete all the columns except for the User ID and the Group participation column.

One improvement already provided last month by WA is a workaround to use custom HTML javascript to color code events based on event tags. See https://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/8825842-color-format-events-based-on-event-tags the help at https://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Event+tags#Eventtags-colorcodingColorcodingeventsusingeventtags . This does not require any programming, just copying the example and editing it to include your tags and preferred colors.

The calendar should have a way to select any of the 12 months, and a way to select or enter another year. As is, this requires a lot of repeated clicks and waiting for refresh.

A popup like the time selection in Event details would work well for this.

Mindy, this is why we rarely use the full WA registration scheme, and instead use Custom field - Extra charge for the different types of attendees when the registration form needs to compute the price.

When we are just collecting RSVPs with no cost computation, we would like to do the same thing, but that needs WA to change Custom field - Extra charge so it will accept a zero price. So we just use text field and hope people will enter numbers.

Neither of these collects the names of the guests, so we just check in people as "Member of John Doe's party" and keep count. It would not work for some but it does for us.

I'm also struggling with registration issues as I set up our site.

Some events have different prices for adults and children. This can be handled by making the event price zero and using Custom field - Extra charge to specify the number of adults and children.

Some events we may want to offer Registration types for pay in advance (with a price) and pay at the door ("free" in the registration but with a separately stated price). But these two workarounds can't be combined.

Custom fields could be a more general workaround if you let us restrict a Custom field to specific Registration type(s). That way, there could be a member-only Registration type, with a Custom field for number of guests at a member price, and a non-member only Registration type with the same Custom field at a non-member price. Or similarly there could be Registration types for pay in advance and at the door.

(The more general question is whether the multiple difficulties with registration can be overcome by tweaks and patches, or whether the entire workflow needs to be rethought. But that's a topic for another thread, if it's even a realistic possibility.)
Member registers him/herself for an event at $125

For each additional guest it's $100

However, we need to know t-shirt sizes for the registered member, as well as each of his guests. I setup "Collect full registration information for each guest " and the system no longer allows me to specify a unique price for the guest.
It's a little late for your event. But this can be handled (not completely gracefully) by making the event price $100 and including a Custom field, Multiple choice with extra charge, Mandatory with a single choice for $25. Call it a registration fee or something. The member will be forced to check it before continuing the registration process.

This could be merged into the more general wishlist item requesting the ability to customize a variety of terminology. (Another big one is "bundle administrator".)

Would it work to give the bundle admin account the name of the chapter, and let the chapter admin have his/her own account within the bundle?

    http://forums.wildapricot.com/forums/308932-wishlist/suggestions/8825677-revising-bundle-membership-functionality-2492

The right term for "bundle" varies from organization to organization. The best fix for this is to allow the admin to specify the term for their site.

Evgeny, I understand. If a workaround requires much investment of your resources, it's beyond what I'm talking about.

But if there's a simple way for your users to get around the absence of a feature by custom code, and you can give us an example we can adapt, I think it makes sense.

An error occurred while saving the comment
    Walt Bilofsky commented  ·

I appreciate that workarounds are not trouble free. They can cause problems, or the system can change out from under them.

But for your customers who need features that WA doesn't provide, there are just four choices: put them on the wishlist and wait, live without them, find another platform, or find a workaround.

Me, I'm a big fan of workarounds. Big systems, like WA, are just too complex to do everything everyone wants, so workarounds are often needed. So I like to figure them out and to share them.

To the extent that you can describe workarounds, you help us serve our members better, make our work easier, and take pressure off the wishlist.

Your tech support has given me a number of Javascript workarounds that make our website and operation better. That's a plus for WA in my opinion.

There is already an iframe example on the help page at https://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Inserting+documents+and+files .

Evgeny, how about adding a more general iframe example to this section? Call it "Embedding content from another web page."

This won't help admins who can't handle HTML at all, but might make iframes more accessible to those willing to try.

Boy, am I sorry I saw Gail's comment! I've been wanting to get rid of a tag but didn't realize I could do it by deleting every instance.

So I got into it before realizing that there were about 70 instances of it! I'm taking a break about halfway through to support this again.

Thank goodness for repeating events or there would have been twice that many.

    OK, back to the grind.
