We've developed a simple yet effective workaround by composing emails requiring images in an external editor, such as Google Docs or in a WA blog entry. Once the content is ready, we copy and paste everything into an email template. Linked images will make this transfer nicely and even get a Settings option to adjust positioning or sizing. Not everything is rendered exactly as in the source editor, but it typically takes very little time to make corrections.
Note that you can also paste images from your computer's clipboard directly into an email template. Alas, you will have no control over text flow or resizing.
