Given the elapsed time for a gadget that reads the file system, perhaps a simpler (i.e. table based) gadget could be produce in a shorter timescale to meet the obvious demand.
So what I would term a Sortable Link gadget with the following columns
Document_Name
Category
Document_Description
Modified_Date
URL_LinkThe ability to set the sort on any combination of columns other than URL_Link.
Doing it this way the gadget isn't limited to WA resource any internet resource can be used, just make sure it can use external file storage like Box , Google Docs etc.....
Admins can just add new entries to the gadget safe in the knowledge that the defined sort order will display the desired result.
I would expand this to allow Export of Discussion Forum data AND provide API access so that there is a choice..
