We failed to reproduce this problem, so I mark the problem as resolved. Feel free to reopen if you encounter the problem again.

Well, I've diagnosed this to another of our users creating RegistrationFields containing trailing spaces. Removing those fields fixed the server error.
Presumably the input should be more closely validated (no trailing spaces).
