Designers

This forum is open to anyone using the advanced design tools in Wild Apricot (Theme Overrides, HTML, JS, CSS, etc). Wild Apricot staff do participate in the forum but we encourage everyone to post and reply to questions here.

What can we do to make it easier to design on top of Wild Apricot?

  1. How do I insert a "Back to Top" on a page with multiple anchors?

    I have a page with a list of Anchor items at the top of the page. There are 2 issues I am finding. When linking to the Anchors below, part of the content is being hid by "Sticky Menu".

    I also have a "Back to Top" link at the bottom that goes to a "top" anchor, but again it is not going to the Top of the webpage.

    Can someone give me a better way to doing this?

    Thanks,
    Paul

      • Please share your Wild Apricot websites with cool design or features

        I would love to see more examples of what people have done with their pages. It is stoo hard to comb through the posts to find those who have given their websites to you guys. Seeing examples really helps me get ideas and it also shows the capability of the system. It would be nice if you created a section in the forum for people to showcase their websites.

        Thanks!

        • Removing (administrator) text from forum and blog pages

          When an administrator with a public profile makes a post to the forum or blog, the name is suffixed "(administrator)". You can remove this text with the following CSS:

          SPAN.postedByComment {
          display: none
          }

          • Are you a designer? We want your feedback!

            We're want to create more resources for anyone who designs sites on top of Wild Apricot. But as always we're looking to get your input first.
            To get the ball rolling here are some ideas we've been thinking about.
            1) Wild Apricot Web Designer Guide (online/e-book) - A detailed guide to all the structural CSS elements of a page, including a cookbook (recipe) approach to customizations. 2) Wild Apricot 'Designer Community' (online only) - Move all customization/design resources to a new location (i.e., outside of forums and help) built just for designers to discuss, share and learn different techniques for…

              • Hide Login Box

                If you do not require members to login or if you do not want to show the login box on every page, you can hide it by using the following CSS code: #idLoginContainer
                {
                display: none;
                }

                You can still login to your site by going to http://<your_wa_address>/Common/LoginPage.aspx

                • submenu bg color

                  I would like to change the color (or opacity) of the sub menu flyout (http://tnwida.wildapricot.org ) I'm using the tranquity theme. The sub menu color is a little hard to read, but I can't change it in the options anywhere - it's an background image in the theme. I don't want to do the theme override thing, cause this is my first time using WA, so I want to play it safe. It there any other way around this? CSS Customization maybe?

                      • Help with a slideshow

                        Hello,

                        First post to the forum. I was wondering if anyone had a nice program to use to integrate an EASY to use slideslow into my webpage that flips through a few photos or figures. I tried using Picasa to do the HTML code but I am not sure where the photos need to be and how I then tweak the code.

                        Thanks for your help

                        • Pictures in the left Navigation Container?

                          Hello,

                          I have currently chose a hybrid template (main navigation on across the top, and sub-items along the left side), and have customized it a bit. http://www.rnlcny.org/Members The login box is also in the left submenu, although I have limited it to showing only on certian Members accessed pages.

                          I would like to add more to the left Navigation Container, like a 200x100 picture that tell of an event or theme, or iframes or even widgets. If it was stacked from top to bottom, the navigation container would look like: Image, Sub-Items Menu, Log-in (that I've turned on for appriotate…

                          • Adobe Typekit and Google WebFonts

                            Hiyah,

                            I am trying to use Adobe Typekit or Google WebFonts in the design of my site.

                            Am having difficulty getting either to work.

                            I have tried two methods with Typekit, having inserted Typekit's two lines of code into the <head> section of each page by using the Meta-Tags>Raw Headers window.

                            <h1asd> Test text </h1asd>

                            This method has no effect

                            2) using span class on the page, to reference 'h1asd' defined in typekit as a

                              Some clients have want to the ability to link to another site with their Member ID in the URL. Just could be for a number of reasons, such as for referral credits, or some type of basic authentication. Using some clever JavaScript it is possible to grab the member ID and pass it on to another site.

                              Since Wild Apricot does not yet have an API, it isn't possible to simple pass the member ID over, we would need to read it off the page. Since the member ID is only found on the member profile page, we would need…

                                Facebook has a comment box widget that you can add to your website to all people to comment on your pages with or without logging in to Facebook. If the commenter logs in to Facebook in order to post they will also be given the option to post their comment on their Facebook profile as well which can help spread awareness of your site virally.

                                Implementing the widget is easy. Before you can start using any Facebook widgets, you need to get an application ID from Facebook - you can do this be registering an application here: http://developers.facebook.com/setup

                                  We have modified the Business Casual Wild Blue theme. We want "home" to not show in the drop down menu. Since we are using a breadcrumb trail feature, there is no reason to list "home" in the menu as well.

                                  • Minimal, Standards Based Theme?

                                    They there, new to the system, working on customizing a site off of the Granite theme.

                                    But before I go too much further, I was wondering it there were any themes that were based on modern day web standards. IE, not using tables, minimal div markup. Maybe even using HTML5 semantic markup?

                                    The less "designed" the better.

                                    Thanks!

                                    • Unique page headers?

                                      Somewhere i read that it was possible to have unique headers on different pages in a site using custom CSS, but i can't figure out how or find any reference. I know how to use page id to specify the exact page but dont know the CSS to use to add the custom header for each page.

                                      Thanks!

                                      • Customize membership application

                                        I would like to customize the membership application so that it will seamlessly integrate into my client's site. Questions:

                                        1) Is the membership application contained in the downloadable theme files, or is it not available to edited because it's functional? Is there a way to edit it's appearance?

                                        2) Can I make the "cancel" button return to the application rather than to the Wild Apricot homepage (which I don't intend anyone to ever see)?

                                        Thanks.

                                        • I've never seen a system so difficult to customize

                                          I am a designer and have been trying for three days to make my layout look like the client's site.

                                          Client's site design: www.wbninc.com/dev/

                                          WA site: members.wbninc.com

                                          The code is so completely convoluted and bloated, I still can't figure out why my page and contents (including my header image when I put it in there) are being resized smaller. I can't get rid of the insane padding around the page content.

                                          Isn't there a way to start with practically nothing and build from there, instead of having to strip out tons of css?

                                          Has anyone figured out how to put…
