   replying to my own post...... rechecked my site recently and found that the text on my submenus are now breaking into two lines, so I'm not losing any text. The overall width of the dropdown box has not changed, but text can be displayed on two lines.

   This is a great discovery and I suspect the engineers at WA did some tweaking in the background to remedy this situation. If that's the case, thank you, WA!
