Each menu item has a unique id (i.e, idMainMenuItem884746, idMainMenuItem884812, idMainMenuItem984365..etc). Using these (ie,. #idMainMenuItem884812 {background:#FFF;} ) you should be able to style each with it's own color.

It is possible, check the page now and your CSS settings for an example. ( Settings > Site look and feel > CSS settings)

Actually this is a good example of integrating a Word Pres site with Wild Apricot. You'll notice this once you click on the become a member icon (top right) and then view the source of that page :)
